VIRTUES OF SURAT AL MULK

 Abu Huraira (RA) reported that the Messenger of Allah ‫ ﷺ‬said: “There is a 30-
verse Surah in the Qur'an which keeps interceding for a man until his sins are
forgiven. This Surah is “Tabāraka Al-Ladhī Biyadihi Al Mulk” (Blessed is He in
whose hand is dominion)”. [Narrated by Ibn Majah].
 Prophet‫ ﷺ‬used to recite this Surah before going to bed every night.

READ AND ANSWER:

There were two men who lived in a village. The first was poor and believed in Allah, .
The second was rich, and Allah,‫ ﷻ‬, bestowed upon him two big beautiful gardens,
but he did not thank Allah,‫ ﷻ‬, for the gifts bestowed upon him. One day, the rich
man entered one of his gardens and pointed to the trees and palaces saying: my
property and palaces will never go, and I will remain one of the richest people all my
life. When the poor man advised him to give charity and reminded him of the Day of
Judgment, he became angry with him. So, Allah‫ ﷻ‬punished him by depriving him of
the two gardens, which turned into ruins.

Q1. What was the attitude of the owner of the garden towards Allah ‫?ﷻ‬

Ans. He was arrogant and ungrateful to Allah ‫ﷻ‬.

EXPLAIN THE FOLLOWING:

1. Allah ‫ ﷻ‬created life and death.

Allah (swt) gave us life and death to test who does the best of the deeds.

2. Allah ‫ ﷻ‬beautified the nearest heaven with stars.

Allah (swt) created the sky and stars without any imperfections. Those who look up
are awed by Allah’s creation. It strengthens their faith and the desire to do good
deeds.

ANSWER THE FOLLOWING:

Q1. In Surat al Mulk, why is “the Exalted in Might” mentioned before “The
Forgiving”?

A. Allah ‫ ﷻ‬has the power over everything, including punishing people for their sins.
However, Allah ‫ ﷻ‬reminds us that He is the most forgiving. Allah ‫ ﷻ‬forgives those
who repent sincerely and do not repeat their sins.

Q2. What is the effect of fearing Allah ‫? ﷻ‬

Ans. Avoid sins, sincerity in worship, self-accountability, sense of responsibility.


Q3. What will the guards in the hell ask those who are thrown into it?

A. They will ask, “Did no warner come to you?”

Q4. Explain the meaning of Ihsan in worship acts.

Ans . Allah ‫ﷻ‬, knows everything whether we hide it or make it public. The Messenger
of Allah ‫ ﷻ‬explained Ihsan in the following Hadith:

“Perfection of worship (Ihsan) is to worship Allah ‫ ﷻ‬as if you see Him, and if you
cannot achieve this state of devotion then you must consider that He is looking at
you.” [Narrated by Al-Bukhari]

Abu Huraira(R.A)reported that the Messenger of Allah(‫)ﷺ‬,said: “Wealth does
not diminish by giving charity. Allah augments the honour of one who forgives.
Anyone who displays humbleness towards another seeking the pleasure of
Allah‫ ﷻ‬will be raised by Allah to a higher status.” [Narrated by Muslim].

Ans: Charity, forgiveness and humbleness
2. Define charity.
Ans. Giving charity refers to spending on others for the sake of Allah‫ﷻ‬. It is not
limited to spending money, but any action to benefit others or to prevent harm is
an act of charity. Charity is one of the greatest deeds through which a servant gets
closer to Allah ‫ﷻ‬.
3. Specify the benefits of giving charity.
Ans : Giving charity brings a servant closer to Allah ‫ﷻ‬. It does not diminish wealth
but enhances the blessings in one’s income. The effect of blessing is not limited to
wealth but is also seen in the health, life and family of the one giving charity; they
are relieved of hardships and Allah raises their status.
4. What is the scope of charity? Is it limited to only money?
Ans. Charity has very wide scope and is not limited to give money, if you give for
the sake of Allah ‫ ﷻ‬it encompasses everything tangible or intangible. The
following are the areas in which you can give charity

➢ Every deed that is beneficial for people

➢ Giving food

➢ Smiling

➢ Removing a rock or thorn from people’s way

➢ Giving good advice

➢ Helping someone who is suffering under the burden of a heavy debt.

➢ Spending on family
5. What are the rewards of Charity?
 Charity extinguishes the anger of Allah ‫ﷻ‬
 Charity wipes the sins away.
 Charity shades its giver on the day of judgment.
 Charity is the reason for the cure of diseases.
 Even a small amount given in charity protects its giver from hellfire
6. What do you understand by forgiveness?
Ans. Forgiveness refers to ability to show mercy to those who have harmed us in
any way. Forgiveness is a civilized act that reflects true faith and good morals; only
a wise, patient and forbearing believer can forgive. It’s a true test of one’s faith
and strong will.
7. What do you mean by humbleness? Explain its affect on society.
Ans : Humbleness is dealing others gently and kindly and showing them respect.
By showing humbleness the person will be honoured and rewarded by Allah ‫ ﷻ‬.
It’s effect on society is justice, equality and brotherhood.

THE GREATER BATTLE OF BADR

Q1. Write an overview of the Battle of Badr


A. When the Messenger of Allah ‫ ﷺ‬, learned that a trade caravan led by
Abu Sufyan was coming back from the Levant, he called up the Muslims
to raid it. It was the first battle between Muslims and Quraysh. The
goals of Muslims were to defend the borders of Madinah, weaken
Quraysh, which was a threat to their security, and restore the wealth of
Muslims that was seized by Quraysh. The Muslims achieved great victory
in this battle.
Q2. Why is the day of the Battle of Badr the Day of distinction (Yawm al
Furqan)?
A. It is called the Day of Distinction because the number of Muslims was very
little. Allah reinforced the Muslim army with angels and they achieved a great
victory.

Q3. How does the government of UAE honour the martyrs?


A. The UAE has set, 30th November as the day for commemorating those who
were martyred while performing their national duties in the UAE and abroad.

Q4. Explain why the Muslims pardoned the captives of the battle of Badr and
released them?
A. During the Battle of Badr, about 70 people of the Quraysh were captured.
Some were ransomed with money while others ransomed themselves by
teaching literacy to the children of the Muslims. Poor captives who had
nothing to ransom themselves were pardoned. The reason is that Allah created
people not to engage in hostilities or wars, but rather to know each other, live
in harmony and help each other.

1. What is Voluntary Fasting? Explain.
Ans. Voluntary Fasting is one of the voluntary worship acts for which, if
performed a Muslim will be rewarded. If a Muslim does not perform them,
he will not be deemed to have sinned. Voluntary fasting is done on certain
days on which fasting is recommended.

2. What are the benefits of Voluntary Fasting?


Ans. Voluntary Fasting is one of the best deeds through which a servant
gets closer to Allah َ‫جلَجالله‬due to its great merit and big reward; Allah
s.w.t multiplies the reward of fasting over 700 times
3. How many types of Voluntary Fasting are there?
Ans. There are two types of Voluntary Fasting: 1) Open Voluntary Fasting 2)
Time specified Voluntary Fasting

4. What is Open Voluntary Fasting?


Ans. Open Voluntary Fasting is not time specific; a Muslim can observe on
any day of the year except forbidden days.

5. What is time specific Voluntary Fasting? Explain in detail.


Ans. In this type Voluntary Fasting is observed days on a weekly, monthly or
annual basis.
1. Weekly: It can be observed on Monday and Thursday.
2. Monthly: It can be observed on three days of every Islamic month.
3. Annual: These comes once in a year, they are:
 9 th Dhul hijjah – arafah
 10th Muharram – Ashura
 First 10 days of Muharram
 6 days in Sha’baan
6. What do you understand by forbidden days?
Ans. Forbidden days are the days on which observing fast is not allowed
They are as follows:
1. The day of Eid ul Fitr
2. The day Eid al Adha
3. Days of Tashreeq (11th, 12th, and 13th of Dhul hijjah)
4. Day of doubt (30th Sha’baan)

Q2. Explain the significance of description by Allah of the Prophet’s (SAW)
wives as “The Mothers of the Believers”.
Ans. Allah (SWT) describes the wives of His Messenger (SAW) as “The Mothers
of the Believers” for the following reasons:
• They made immense sacrifices and contributed to the cause of Islam
• Allah (SWT) honours them with the title of “the Mothers of the
Believers”
• Allah commanded the Muslims not to marry the wives of the Prophet
(SAW) after he passed away.
Q3. Summarize the status of Aysha (RA) with our Prophet Muhammad
(SAW).
Ans.
1. Among women, Aysha (RA) was the most beloved of the Prophet (SAW)
2. The Prophet (SAW) said that Aysha (RA) was one of the three women
who attained perfection, the other two being, Asiya, the wife of Pharoah
and Mariam, the mother of Isa (AS)
3. The Prophet (SAW) declared that Aysha (RA) is his wife in this world and
the hereafter.
Q4. List some of the admirable aspects of the personality of Aysha (RA).
Ans. Aysha (RA) was wise, learned, kind and generous.
 She absorbed everything that she learned from the Prophet (SAW)
including the Quran, Hadith, jurisprudence and tafsir.
 She mastered the disciplines of history, poetry and medicine.
 She used to love knowledge and asked about everything she did not
understand until she understood it completely.
 She used to fast everyday, whether she was travelling or not.
 She gave away all the money that ibn al Zubayr sent her, and did not
kept even a single dirham for herself.
 She participated in the battles with the Prophet (SAW), nursing the
injured, preparing food and serving water.
Q5. There were several factors behind the genius of Aysha (RA). State three
of them.
Ans. Aysha (RA) was inquisitive, observant and loved knowledge.
Q6. How did Aysha (RA) acquire the knowledge of several disciplines?
1. Aysha (RA) acquired wisdom and knowledge of the Quran and Hadith
from the Prophet (SAW)
2. She acquired the knowledge of history and poetry from her father Abu
Bakr (RA)
3. She learnt the discipline of medicine by observing the physicians who
came to visit Prophet (SAW) when he was ill during his last days.
