3 Measuring Procedure
NEC-Magnetoelectricity transducer for torsional vibration measurement is to be installed
at the flywheel of the M/E. Then the signals of torsional vibration will be sent out from the
sensor to ANZT-6 torsional vibration analyzer and connect to computer, the single is to be
analyzed by NZTW (Software for torsional vibration analysis) to obtain test results.
In the complete operating speed range of main engine, the following will be investigated
and included:
Crankshaft stresses
Stress in intermediate shaft
Vibratory torque in primary harmonic of node
To find out critical speed and barred speed range.
At the normal condition of main engine, the measurement will be done for each revolution
section within main engine speed at 5 RPM each time from its lowest speed 23 RPM up to
highest speed 90.3 RPM.

‘As shown by measurement, torsional vibration in all section of the shafting within the
normal running speed range are mainly due to vibration for 6 order/1 node.
It is the same as theoretical calculation,

According to the actual operation during test compared with calculated report. The vibration
frequency, critical speed, order and the vibration amplitude are all within small error range. So
the measured result of torsional vibration is logical and acceptable, the measured results and
calculated results are all inosculated. The calculated report for torsional vibration is correct
and believable too. Stress in each shaffing section can be calculated by Holizer table (see
plotted below).
