Intramurals are intramural sports leagues, tournaments, and competitions that take
place within a single university. Intramural sports allow university and college students to
participate against their peers in a variety of sports. The program’s goal is to provide youngsters
with enjoyable, safe, and organized play experiences that will help them develop physically,
mentally, and socially. The goal is to give everyone, regardless of ability, the opportunity to
participate in a sports activity that will help them develop skills and interest in a fun, recreational
setting.

Intramurals are a great way to increase student engagement by providing students with
opportunities to interact socially with their peers, which fosters a sense of belonging, positive
mental health, and greater engagement in both academic and non-academic activities.
Participation in intramurals helps students further develop their social skills, co-operation,
teamwork, physical literacy, and overall health. Most importantly, intramurals provide
much-needed opportunities for students who do not have the opportunity to participate in
organized sport or physical activities within the school or communities.
