ROGER PENROSE

By Angela Liza 7C
Nobel Prize laureate
Sir Roger Penrose,
born in England on
8th August 1931, is a
mathematician and
physicist.
Roger Penrose has contributed to
general relativity and cosmology and
has received several prizes for his work,
including the 1988 Wolf Prize in Physics,
which he shared with Stephen Hawking
for the Penrose - Hawking singularity
theorem.

He was awarded the 2020 Nobel

Prize “for the discovery that black
hole formation is a robust
prediction of general relativity”
He is noted for having developed the
cosmic censorship conjecture, which
is a hypothesis for why black hole
singularities are hidden from us.

Penrose also invented

‘twistor theory,’ a major
tool in quantum physics. In 1974 he created Penrose
It was proposed in 1967 Tiling, an aperiodic tiling system
as a possible path to that uses only two types of tiles
quantum gravity. and still never repeats.
