STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE FOR MELT PREPARATION FOR RB-BLOCKS

1. TAKE LIQUID METAL FROM CUPOLA AND DE-SLAG


2. POUR THE LIQUID METAL INTO THE INDUCTION FURNACE
3. PERFORM A CARBON-SILICON ANALYSIS BY USING A CARBON CUP
4. ADD CPC (FOR CARBON) & FeSi75 FOR SILICON AS REQUIRED BY THE CARBON-SILICON ANALYZER

%Si 700 gm Silicon increases by 0.1% 1.8% - 2.1%

%C 1000 gm Carbon increases by 0.1% 3.25% - 3.30%

5. AFTER ALLOY ADDITION, MIX THOROUGHLY


6. PEROFRM A CARBON-SILICON ANALYSIS AGAIN TO VERIFY C/Si CONTENT
7. TAKE METAL BATH TEMPERATURE IN THE CRUCIBLE (1430-1450 C)
8. START TAPPING METAL INTO POURING LADLE
9. START ADDING INOCULANT TO METAL STREAM WHEN LADLE IS 1/3RD FULL
(0.15% of 500kg = 750 gm/heat)
10. POURING TEMPERATURE SHOULD BE IN THE RANGE 1380 – 1420 C
11. POURING TIME SHOULD BE BETWEEN 20-25 SEC
12. NUMBER OF MOULD BOXES TO BE POURED PER HEAT = 4
