The Potter’s Offspring
This piece entitled “The Potter’s Offspring” is a set of ceramic vessels made from clay. The inspiration for this piece came from everyday surroundings. I wanted to make something that is unique and could be used in the home as a décor and be functional at the same time. The pieces were created using the throwing technique in which the clay was molded into the desired shape while on the potter’s wheel as it rotates. The results of this technique were beautiful and unique and varies in height. The name of the pieces is symbolic of the pride and joy that parents feel when they watch their children grow. The ceramic pieces being an offspring of the potter’s wheel which is crucial in the molding of the clay, is indicative of the molding process of children. The wide mouth ceramic piece (middle piece) is both decorative and functional as it can be used for décor and holding small things like: paper clips, thumb tacks, erasers, sharpeners etc. The smallest ceramic piece is decorative and can be placed on dressers, tables etc. while the tallest piece is both decorative and functional and can be used as a vase.
