ABSTRACT

The study examined study habits and academic performance of Grade 10 students in
Mathematics. A case study of selected Grade 10 students in Jomalig National High School. The
main purpose of the study was to investigate the relationship between study habits and academic
Grade 10 students in Mathematics. To carry out this study, three research questions and a null
hypothesis were raised to guide the study. The population of Grade 10 students with a sample
size of 108 respondents was selected from Jomalig National High School for the study using
random sampling technique. A structured questionnaire was used to gather data for the study,
which comprises of three sections (A, B and C), section A comprise of 6 items while section B,
comprise of 10 and C was comprises of 5 questions about study habits of students. Mean and
standard deviation, Pearson R correlation were used to answer the research questions. However,
the results revealed that there is significance relationship between note taking, attendance and
time allocation for study and students' academic performance in mathematics. Based on the result
of the findings, it was recommended that group guidance should be organized in schools by
professional counsellors in order to create awareness on how students can develop effective
study habits which could lead to good academic performance in mathematics, they should also
adopt the use of planned time ties for their study routine and develop the discipline to stick to
each day's plan.
Key words: Mathematics, Students Academic Performance and Study Habits.
