How to resolve

‘Offline Status’ or
‘Copy 1 or 2 etc..’ of the
printer driver appearing
‘OFFLINE STATUS’
We have illustrated where Brother’s ‘Offline Status’ or ‘Copy1 or feature has been added
to Brother devices to be
2’ printer drivers appearing, and resolutions to following compliant with recent
EEC ruling. This simply
scenarios are listed below; means virtually no
power usage when in
standby mode!
Scenario 1: Disable the ‘Power Down’ mode feature
If the printer is not used for 4 hours or more it will power
down and appear on the computer with a ‘Offline’ status.
To appear ‘Online’ it requires the user to press the ‘Go’ once.

To disable this, with the printer turned on:

1. Press the ‘Go’ button four times. All the LEDs should
blink once
2. To check if this is disabled, press the ‘Go’ button 3
times to print configuration, which should then list
‘Auto powerdown = Off’

(This only affects USB connections. Wired or wireless is not affected)

Scenario 2: If after disabling ‘Power down’ feature
the printer still appears ‘Offline’ 08444 999 444

This requires an update of your Dell BIOS/Chipset drivers

Scenario 3... If you can see ‘Copy 1 or Copy 2 etc..’ of the printer driver
appearing on the computer, please follow these steps:

1. You will need to download the specific firmware to update your printer .

 Download the ‘Filedrgs’ tool to allow easy drag ‘n’ drop for firmware;
 Download the ‘Firmware’ for your printer

How to update
1. Extract the file and double click
‘Filedrgs’ to run the software.

2. Simply drag over the firmware file

‘xxxxxx.djf’ onto the listed ‘HL-5400’
printer listed on screen.

The firmware update process will begin

with the ‘ready’ light constantly
flashing. Please note that the process
can take up 2 minutes.

DO NOT switch the printer
