IBAnag: Exploring the Unique Traditional Beliefs Among the Ibanag tribe in District 2, Reina
Mercedes, Isabela
BRIEF INTRODUCTION:
The Ibanag people, an indigenous group in the Philippines, possess a rich cultural heritage
deeply rooted in their traditional beliefs and practices. Among the various subgroups of the Ibanag,
those residing in Reina Mercedes, a municipality in the province of Isabela, have maintained distinct
customs and beliefs that reflect their unique identity. In this research we explore into the traditional
belief of the ibanag community in Reina Mercedes, which lead in shedding light their spiritual world
view, rituals and folklore. By exploring these aspects, the study seeks to provide a comprehensive
understanding of the cultural dynamics within this particular subgroup of the Ibanag people. Through
ethnographic methods such as interviews, participant observation, and analysis of cultural artifacts, this
research endeavors to document and analyze the importance of their traditional beliefs that shape the
lives of the Ibanag in District 2, Reina Mercedes, Isabela. Additionally, the study aims to contribute to the
preservation and appreciation of Ibanag cultural heritage while offering insights into the involvement of
This qualitative research aims to explore the unique traditional beliefs among the Ibanag group
residing in Reina Mercedes. Specifically, the study seeks to address the following questions:
1. What are the unique and different traditional beliefs practiced by the Ibanag community in
Reina Mercedes?
2. How are these traditional beliefs practiced and integrated into the daily lives of the Ibanag
people?
3. How this unique culture differs from other group of indigenous people?
RESEARCH DESIGN:
Exploring the Unique Traditional Beliefs Among the Ibanag tribe in District 2, Reina Mercedes,
Isabela. In gathering data open ended question was conducted in the form of interview which
focuses on “how” and “what” to the selected participants to discover their unique traditional
beliefs.
In conducting this study, we are selecting 5-10 Ibanag people in District 2, Reina Mercedes,
Isabela that serves as our participants in gathering data and information. Specifically, these people must
in the age of 40 to 50 and above to further in the study about the exploration of the Unique Traditional
