Analysis: How do youth assess students’ 21st Century life and career skills and their learning
environments?

 Youth assess students’ 21st century life and career skills and their learning environments by
allowing students to work with others effectively, through leadership and responsibility, and
adaptability. Allowing students to work with others can help them to have a communication and
collaboration between their peers. Also, they can learn from each other and can have the
opportunity to brainstorming. Through leadership and responsibility, we let the students to become
independent and be responsible in their group members and make own decisions. Adaptability,
can help students to use their learnings in a real word situation. By this, the things they learn will
become a life long learnings.

MODULE 2- 21ST CENTURY SKILL CATEGORIES

Twenty-first century skills: A needs assessment of school-based agricultural education
teachers

Analysis: How can 21st Century skills prepare students to enter workforce and higher education?

 21st century skills prepare students to enter the workforce or higher education with the ability to
think critically and creatively, collaborate with others, take the initiative when approached with a
task, and use technology to its fullest potential. If students are not learning the skills needed for
success, it is because educators and schools are not teaching them. When students possess these
skills, they are prepared to work in terms, think critically and creatively about a problem, display
leadership and social skills, and communicate effectively with others.

Implication: Why do you think professional development on teaching 21st Century skills needed by
teachers in the field?

 In my view professional development on teaching 21st century skills needed by teachers in the field
is because how can a teacher teaches students if he/she is not aware or unfamiliar to the skills that
the students should learn. Professional development is a must to every teacher that will be going to
teach a student. A teacher should be professional and willing to adopt and can cope up in changing
world. Because, just like season the curriculum and the needs of the students is changing too.
Furthermore, professional development is needed to increase teachers’ knowledge of and ability to
teach 21st century skills. Professional development will allow school-based agricultural education
teachers to gain specific and applicable strategies for implementation.
