Come to GAT, the new Games Academy for Teenagers!
Don’t just play. Create characters, make games and then play!
Our academy is open to teenagers from 13 to 17 years old. We offer one-week intensive courses in
summer and in winter. Courses start on Sundays at 6.00 pm and finish on Fridays at 4.30 pm. All
students have their meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) at the academy and sleep in our dorms.

1 Do you like GAT? Write at least three things you like / don’t like in two columns. Share your
ideas with a classmate.
2 Write five questions about the text on a slip of paper. Exchange slips with a classmate and
answer the questions.

Video game tournaments


a) Find videos about the latest video game tournament or a video game tournament
that you know about that include the following information:
• what types of games people play;
• how people compete in this video game tournament:
a) Are there different stages?
b) Do they play individually or in groups?
c) Do they all play simultaneously?
• what type of prizes gamers can win.
Try to cover at least one of the points per video.

b) Explain to your teacher and classmates:


• what you learnt about the video game tournament from the videos;
• your reasons for choosing the videos.

c) In pairs, role play an interview and make a video. Imagine one of you is a famous
gamer and the other, the interviewer. Think of the questions you are going to
include, rehearse and then record a video.

When you search for the videos, try to use


different keywords.
