Dear Delegates,

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you all to the CHRIST University


School of Business Studies & Social Sciences Model United Nations 2024
(CUBSMUN’24)

As the Faculty Coordinator, I am excited to see such a diverse group of


young individuals from various academic backgrounds coming together
to discuss and find solutions to global issues.

CUBSMUN’24 is a platform, that will provide you the opportunity to


sharpen your skills in diplomacy, public speaking, and negotiation. You
will be able to learn from one another, build networks, and enhance your
understanding of the world. The various agendas and committees have
been designed in a way which highlights the need for international
cooperation in addressing the challenges of our time. We hope to see
your contributions towards finding viable solutions to these challenges.

In the delegate brochure, you will find important information about the
conference schedule, committee topics, and guidelines for participation.
Please read the brochure carefully and make sure to follow the
instructions provided.

I encourage you to use this conference as an opportunity to challenge


yourself, step outside of your comfort zone, and engage in meaningful
dialogue with your fellow delegates.

ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY

CHRIST(Deemed to be University),Bannerghatta Road


Campus, was born out of the educational vision of
St.Kuriakose Elias Chavara, an educationalist and social
reformer of the nineteenth century in Southern India.

Since its initiation, it has undertaken path-breaking


initiatives in Indian Higher Education with the
introduction of innovative and modern curricula,
insistence on academic discipline, imparting of Holistic
Education and adoption of global higher education
practices with the support of creative and dedicated
staff.

The multidisciplinary university which focuses on


teaching research and service offers Bachelors to
Doctoral programmes in varied fields to over 21,000
students. The campus is a living example of harmonious
multi-culturalism with students from all the states of
India and around 60 different countries. A promoter of
sports, music and literary activities, it is a nurturing
ground for creative excellence. CHRIST (Deemed to be
University), a premier educational institution, is an
academic fraternity of individuals dedicated to the

Christ University School of Business and Social Studies


Model United Nations (CUBSMUN) provides an unique
opportunity for students to deliberate and interact with
individuals from 15+ diverse universities all across India.
CUBSMUN is a legacy that has been carried forward since
2018. The biggest conference in town, it comprises of
students from all over the country.

ABOUT THE DEBATING SOCIETY

The Debating Society of CHRIST (Deemed to be) University,


Bannerghatta Road campus diligently abides by its
objectives of reinforcing diplomacy. A student led
organization, this society is filled with passionate debaters
with exceptional research and delivery capabilities.

Since it's inception in 2018, DEBSOC has been relentless in


its efforts in facilitating curiosity and creativity among
students, enabling them to become confident speakers in
public, creating platform for dialogues and discussions
based on issues of contemporary importance, and most
importantly, building socially and culturally aware
students.

Dear Delegates,

It is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that I extend my warmest greetings


to you as the Secretary General of the CUBSMUN 2024. As we gear up for this
momentous event, It is my pleasure to invite you to participate in what
promises to be an intellectually stimulating and enriching Model United
Nations conference.

CUBSMUN is not just a gathering of bright minds; it is a platform for dialogue,


diplomacy, and collaboration. Through engaging debates and interactive
simulations, we aim to empower you, the leaders of tomorrow, to think
critically and contribute meaningfully to the world around us. This year's
conference will bring together delegates from diverse backgrounds,
fostering an environment that encourages open dialogue and the exchange
of ideas. It is our sincere belief that your participation will not only contribute
to the success of the conference but will also provide you with an
opportunity to develop crucial skills.

As we embark on this conference, I encourage you to engage in meaningful


discussions and foster a spirit of cooperation and diplomacy. The United
Nations operates on the principles of mutual respect, tolerance, and
understanding, and it is my hope that these values will guide our
proceedings over the course of this conference.

UNSC UNHRC OIC

ECOFIN NITI AAYOG INTERNATIONAL PRESS


UNSC -SECURITY COUNCIL

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) stands as


the paramount arbiter of international peace and
security, comprising 15 member states embodying
diverse geopolitical perspectives. With five permanent
members wielding veto powers, the UNSC addresses
global challenges through collective decision-making.
Endowed with a multifaceted mandate, the council
employs preventive diplomacy, conflict resolution, and
peacekeeping operations, backed by the authority of
binding resolutions. Guided by the principles of the
United Nations Charter, the UNSC champions
multilateralism, human rights, and the rule of law.

Delegates in UNSC simulations shoulder the weight of


real-world decision-making, navigating intricate
diplomatic landscapes, and devising strategies to
counteract threats to global stability. As an influential
force shaping the international order, the UNSC
provides a platform for delegates to hone diplomatic
skills, negotiate complex issues, and contribute to the
ongoing discourse on fostering a secure and
cooperative world.

AGENDA: Deliberating on the Militarization of the


Indo-Pacific Region
UNHRC- HUMAN
RIGHTS COUNCIL
The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC)
stands as the paramount international body dedicated
to promoting and protecting human rights worldwide.
Comprising 47 member states elected for staggered
three-year terms, the UNHRC addresses a broad
spectrum of human rights issues through dialogue,
cooperation, and consensus-building. With a mandate
to examine and rectify violations, the council engages in
thematic and country-specific discussions, working
collaboratively to devise resolutions that uphold the
dignity and rights of individuals globally. It operates on
the principles of universality, impartiality, and non-
selectivity, providing a platform for open discussions on
pressing human rights concerns.

Delegates in UNHRC simulations navigate the


complexities of international human rights law,
advocate for the vulnerable, and negotiate resolutions
that strive to create a world where fundamental rights
are respected, protected, and fulfilled for all individuals,
regardless of their background or circumstance.

AGENDA: Addressing the human rights


implications of organ trafficking and trafficking
in persons for organ removal
ECOFIN- ECONOMIC AND
FINANCIAL AFFAIRS
COUNCIL

The Economic and Financial (ECOFIN) Committee serves


as the Second Committee in the United Nations General
Assembly. It is tasked with decreasing economic
burdens on nations and securing a stable economic
system for the citizens of the world. During the current
session, responsibilities include macroeconomic policy,
global growth, sustainable development, and helping to
increase commodity and capital commerce across
borders.

During the course of this conference, the committee will


deal with issues relating to economic growth and
development such as macroeconomic policy questions;
financing for development; sustainable development;
globalization and interdependence; eradication of
poverty; operational activities for development;
agriculture development; food security and nutrition;
information and communications technologies for
development; and towards global partnerships.

AGENDA: Assessing the economic and financial


implications of global energy transfer schemes
NITI AAYOG

The National Institution for Transforming India (NITI


Aayog) takes center stage as a distinctive committee
focused on policy formulation and sustainable
development within the Indian context. Established to
replace the Planning Commission, NITI Aayog operates
at the intersection of government, academia, and
industry, serving as a think tank and a catalyst for
transformative initiatives. Comprising a diverse array of
stakeholders, including policymakers, experts, and
representatives from various sectors, this committee
provides a platform to address multifaceted challenges
specific to India.

Delegates in the NITI Aayog committee engage in


strategic discussions, proposing innovative policies to
advance economic growth, social inclusivity, and
environmental sustainability. This simulation offers
participants a unique opportunity to delve into the
intricacies of Indian governance, tackle contemporary
issues, and collaboratively craft solutions that align with
the nation's developmental aspirations.

AGENDA: Evaluating the Implementation of the


National Education Policy 2020. Implementing
National Skill Development Mission with Special
Emphasis on Strategies to Reduce Brain Drain and
Promote Aatma Nirbhar Bharat.
OIC-ORGANIZATION OF
ISLAMIC COOPERATION
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is a
committee that focuses on the concerns of the
Islamic world, consisting of 57 member states from
four different continents. The OIC aims to promote
and protect the political, economic, social, and
cultural interests of the Islamic community around
the world. The OIC is an essential committee in
Model United Nations conferences as it provides a
platform for delegates to discuss and propose
solutions to issues that affect Muslim countries, such
as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the Rohingya
refugee crisis, and the war in Syria. The committee
also addresses issues related to human rights,
economic development, and cultural exchange
among Islamic nations. As a delegate, representing
a member state of the OIC provides an opportunity
to understand the diverse perspectives and interests
of Muslim countries and their positions on global
issues. It encourages delegates to engage in
constructive dialogue, build alliances, and negotiate
in a manner that represents their country's interests
while keeping in mind the larger goal of promoting
peace and prosperity in the Islamic world.
Note: This is a Continuous Crisis Committee (CCC)
IP-INTERNATIONAL
PRESS CORPS

The International Press Corps plays a


quintessential role in the conference. It is a
forum comprising journalists and
photojournalists who act as watchdogs and
bring out the conference's happenings to the
public with their vigilant observation and skills.
They are in charge of observing the simulations
as they take place and disseminating
information about those events to all
participants. They are responsible for
conducting background research, whether
gathering basic information on relevant topics
or conducting interviews in this capacity. The
photographer's job is to document every
moment of the MUN committees.
