Fasting can be defined as abstaining from eating, drinking and things that invalidate the
fast starting from the dawn of the sadiq until the sunset with intention. According to Islamic
Relief Australia, fasting is one of the five pillars of Islam, a mandatory for all Muslims. The
fasting person must be a Muslims, sensible, at the age of puberty and pure from
menstruation and childbirth. We as Muslims fast during Ramadan in which lasts for only 29
days. Next, Ramadan is the ninth and the holiest month in the Islamic calendar. It is also a
month during which everyone competes in act of kindness. The month of Ramadan is when
the portals of heaven are opened for worship and the gates of hell are closed. After the
fasting month, all the Muslims celebrates Syawal which is Hari Raya Aidilfitri together. Next,
we know that all the things that we do must have their own benefits either in the spiritual or
our health.

According to zamzam.com (2022), one of the benefits of fasting in Ramadan from

the spiritual perspective is fetches greater rewards. It is because Ramadhan is a
month where Muslims can act of their kindness as much as they can. Plus, the
reward that we get in Ramadhan is double than other month. Since all Muslims are
fasting, they have much free time compared to the other months. They can replace
their eating time, for instance breakfast and lunch time with reciting the Quran,
engaging with zikr, joining or watching religious talks and other good things. With
these activities, they can increase their taqwa and faith towards their creator which is
believing in Allah. Joining in good things can also avoid us from negative vibes and
doing bad things.

After that, fasting has a good impact on our healthy. According to Islamic Relief
Australia (2023) fasting can help with our mental health. Fasting may help reduce
anxiety and depression without increasing fatigue. This is because we feel free and
don’t need to think about what we have to do after fasting like other months or on
days when we are not fasting. When we are fasting, there is much free time which
means we do not need to think about what we want to eat and what we want to cook
without feeling stressed. We can fill the time with good things for ourselves and our
surroundings. Through this, we can improve mental clarity and focus, and promote a
sense of discipline and self-control. At the same time, we can be punctual as well.
For example, we need to break the fast when it comes to azan and we must eat and
stop when it comes to azan during sahoor as well. So, fasting in Ramadhan give a
positive impact for all Muslims.

In conclusion, we know that fasting in Ramadhan has many benefits in all aspects.
It is not only good for our spirituality but also good for our health. As a Muslims, we
need to be grateful for being a Muslims and obey to our creator. Moreover, it will be
more positive if we invite other people around us to do so.
