LISTENING SECTION (8 marks, 1 each)
The purpose of this section is to evaluate your abilities to listen and understand spoken English in a
given situation. You will hear each recording twice.
A girl is answering questions in an interview about her last vacation; you will listen 3 times carefully and
answer the question bellow. (8 marks, 1 for each) 4p.

JACK AND THE BEANSTALK

Once upon a time there was a boy called Jack. He lived with his mother .They were very poor .All they had was a
cow. One morning, Jack’s mother told him to take the cow to the market and sell her. On the way Jack met a man.
He gave Jack some magic beans for the cow. Jack took the beans and went back home. When Jack’s mother saw the
beans she was very angry. She threw the beans out of the window. The next morning, Jack looked out of the
window. There was a giant beanstalk .He went outside and started to climb the beanstalk. He climbed up to the sky
through the clouds. Jack saw a beautiful castle. He went inside. Jack heard a voice “Fee,fi,fo,fum!” and ran into a
cupboard. An enormous giant came into the room and sat down. On the table there was a hen and a golden
harp.”Lay” said the giant. The hen laid an egg-it was made of gold.”Sing” said the giant. The harp began to sing.
Soon the giant was asleep. Jack jumped out of the cupboard. He took the hen and the harp. Suddenly the harp sang
“Help,master!”. The giant shouted, “Fee,fi,fo,fum!”.Jack ran and started to climb down the beanstalk.The giant came
down after him. Jack shouted “Mother, help!”. Jack’s mother took an axe and chopped down the beanstalk. The

giant fell and crashed to the ground. Nobody ever saw him again. With the golden eggs and the magic harp Jack and
his mother lived happily ever after.

WRITING SECTION (15 marks)


The purpose of this section is to evaluate your abilities to communicate ideas by writing a specific text.
The main criteria are organization, word choice, syntax, spelling and agreement between parts of
speech.
TASK: Your son can’t sleep, so you decide to tell him a story about a trip you once had. Do not forget to describe
the full situation: How did it happen? Where did it happen? What did you do? Which interesting places did you
know? Do not forget to conjugate irregular and regular verbs correctly and use simple and continuous past
appropriately. (150 words minimum)

 Narrate the whole trip in order to make it interesting.


 Compare the city where you live with that place (people, weather, buildings, constructions, etc)
 Use different ways to compare (the ones we worked in class)
 Try to connect sentences and create a logic narration.
 Remember this is a story you tell your son, so be creative and feel free to make up some things.

Once upon a time, I was in Santa Marta visiting my family since I have not seen her for eight years, they were very
happy when they saw me and I was very happy, they killed chickens as soon as we arrived we went to the river, the
next day they killed a pig all very happy together In families eating chicharronadas, blood sausages, roast meat, at
night I have a bingo where $ 200 thousand is raffled and the table cost $ 1,000 thousand. A week after I arrived

where my family went to the sea, we made stew, my aunt was the one who cooked with the help of her daughter,
since the daughter wanted to bathe with me because we had not seen each other for a long time, reaching the extreme

blowing. I decide that I would go for a walk. I start walking down the road. I opened the door and closed it behind
me. . I walk miles and miles along a country road. I even visited my aunt. On the way I passed a young man who
was selling fruit. 'How much are the apples?' I ask. "For a bag," he says. I paid the man and kept walking. I ate all
the apples except one, which I dropped on the ground, they were delicious. After a while I meet another man, this
man had a camel. The camel was a special camel, it had no humps...
