LCD
Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) is the type of flat-panel display. In order to produce an image, it uses
liquid crystals which are located between glass, plastic, or any other clear material.

Technique behind LCD’s Working:

Liquid crystals are fixed into display screen in several layers. Backlight is used behind liquid
crystals because they can not produce light by themselves. A display image is made up of a huge
quantity of pixels. Clear material having liquid crystals is placed behind and in front of these
pixels. When liquid crystals are charged, the clear material is polarized, and image is produced by
switching on and off of pixels.

Types of LCD:
LCDs are of different types based on work of liquid crystals.
1. Segmented passive display
2. Twisted Nematic
3. Super twisted nematic
4. Film compensated
5. Double layer
6. ESTN and ISTN

LED Display
Light-emitting diode (LED) Display is also a flat panel display. Its image quality is much better than
Liquid Crystal Display.

Technique behind LED’s Working:

Many light emitting diodes are closely placed and considered as pixels. Image is produced by
change of brightness level of these diodes.
Types of LED Display
1. Dot Matrix LED Display
2. 7-Segment LED Display
3. 14-Segment LED Display
4. 16-Segment LED Display
