Outline for Laboratory Activity Report

I. Introduction
Sound is the sensation produced by vibrations that travel through a medium,
such as air or water. Noise is any unwanted or disturbing sound that interferes
with our perception of other sounds or disrupts our well-being. Sound is essential
for many aspects of our everyday life, such as communication, entertainment,
navigation, and health. However, excessive noise can also cause harm to our
hearing, mood, and productivity. Monitoring noise levels with a smart device can
help us to protect ourselves from the negative effects of noise pollution and to
enjoy the benefits of sound.
II. Objective
This activity aims to demonstrate how a smart device can be used to monitor
noise levels in different environments. Noise pollution is a serious issue that can
affect human health, productivity, and well-being. By using a smart device, such
as a smartphone or a tablet, we can measure the sound intensity and frequency
of various sources of noise, such as traffic, construction, music, etc. We can also
compare the noise levels in different locations and times, and analyze the data to
identify patterns and trends. This activity will help us understand the causes and
effects of noise pollution, and explore possible solutions to reduce it.

III. Materials / Requirements

To monitor noise levels with a smart device, you will need the following materials
and requirements:
- A smartphone or tablet with a microphone and an internet connection.
- A noise meter app that can measure the sound pressure level (SPL) in decibels
(dB) and display the results on the screen.
- A quiet and safe location to experiment, such as a classroom, a library, or a
park.
- A stopwatch or a timer to record the duration of the noise measurement.

IV. Procedure

To facilitate the activity of monitoring noise levels with a smart device, follow
these steps:

1. Download and install the Noise Meter app on your smart device. This app will
measure the sound pressure level (SPL) in decibels (dB) and display it on the
screen.
2. Choose a suitable location for the smart device, such as a table or a tripod,
where it can capture the ambient noise without being obstructed or disturbed by
other source of sound.
3. Launch the app and tap the Start button to record the noise level. You can also
set a timer or a threshold for the app to stop automatically.
4. Observe the noise level on the screen and compare it with the recommended
values for different environments, such as classrooms, offices, libraries, etc. You
can also view the history and statistics of the noise level over time.
5. Tap the Stop button to end the recording and save the data. You can also
export or share the data with others for further analysis or reporting.
