1. Scope This Japanese I n d u s t r i a l Standard s p e c i f i e s t h e bronze g a t e ,


globe, angle and check v a l v e s ( h e r e a f t e r r e f e r r e d t o as "valves") t o be used
f o r g e n e r a l mechanical equipment.

Remarks 1. The s t a n d a r d s c i t e d i n t h i s Standard are given i n Attached


Table 11.

5. Qualities

5.1 Performances The performances of v a l v e s shall be as given i n t h e


following:

(1) Pressure r e s i s t a n c e of valve body The valve body, when t e s t e d i n


accordance with 8.1, s h a l l be free from abnormality i n any portion.

(2) Leakage from valve seat The leakage from valve seat, when t e s t e d i n
accordance with 8.2, s h a l l conform t o Table 3.

(3) Actuation When t e s t e d i n accordance w i t h 8.3, each moving p a r t of a


valve s h a l l f u n c t i o n s o smoothly as t o be s u i t a b l e f o r the opening and
c l o s i n g o p e r a t i o n s of t h e valve.

I n a d d i t i o n , t h e valve d i s c s of t h e l i f t check valve and swing


check valve shall r e t u r n t o t h e shut-off p o s i t i o n s by t h e i r self weight.

5.2 Constructions. s h a D e s and dimensions

5.2.1 Common matters The common matters t o the c o n s t r u c t i o n s , shapes and


dimensions of v a l v e s s h a l l be i n accordance w i t h t h e following:

(1) The p r i n c i p a l dimensions of valves s h a l l be as given i n (1) of Attached


Tables 1 t o 10.

(2) Examples of c o n s t r u c t i o n s and shapes s h a l l be given i n (1) of Attached


Tables 1 t o 10.

( 3 ) P e r t a i n i n g t o t h e opening and c l o s i n g of t h e valve, t h e counter-


clockwise t u r n of t h e handwheel s h a l l be taken as "opening", and t h e
clockwise t u r n as "closing".

(4) The c l e a r a n c e between t h e handwheel and t h e gland nut shall have enough
room t o admit of exchanging packings even when t h e valve i s closed.

( 5 ) The depth of t h e packing room f o r t h e valve of nominal p r e s s u r e 5 K


shall be not less than 3 times t h e c l e a r a n c e between t h e valve stem and
t h e packing room, and f o r t h e valve of nominal p r e s s u r e 1 0 K n o t less
than 4 times.

(6) The passage area i n each p a r t of t h e valve body shall be not smaller
than t h e area of valve seat bore. However, i n t h e case where d i s c
guide i s a t t a c h e d t o t h e valve d i s c , t h e passage area may be deducted

(7) The t o l e r a n c e s on t h e face t o f a c e dimensions ( L ) shall be as given i n

(8) The p e r m i s s i b l e values f o r t h e c o a x i a l i t y and r e c t a n g u l a r i t y between


t h e screw thread a x i a l l i n e s of both ends of the screwed-end type
shall comply w i t h J I S B 2003, and those of t h e soldered-end type shall
comply w i t h the screwed-end type, as a p p r o p r i a t e .

(9) The t o l e r a n c e s on dimensions of t h e f l a n g e shall comply w i t h J I S


B 2203.

(10) The permissible values f o r t h e p a r a l l e l i s m and r e c t a n g u l a r i t y of t h e


f l a n g e s of both ends of t h e flanged-end type s h a l l comply with Table 6 .

(11) The hexagon n u t s shall comply w i t h J I S B 1181.

(12) The s p l i t p i n s s h a l l comply w i t h JIS B 1351.

5.2.2 Globe valve and a n g l e valve The c o n s t r u c t i o n s and shapes of t h e


globe valve and a n g l e valve s h a l l be as given i n t h e following:

(1) The connection of t h e valve body and t h e bonnet shall be t h e screwed-


end type f o r t h e metal seat, and t h e union type f o r t h e s o f t seat.

However, t h e connection f o r t h e valve of nominal p r e s s u r e 10 K and


nominal s i z e 80 (3) o r over s h a l l be t h e flanged-end type and t h e
bolting.

(2) The valve d i s c and valve stem shall be joined f i r m l y so as n o t t o f a l l


o f f during o p e r a t i o n , and be so c o n s t r u c t e d as t o r o t a t e smoothly.
However, f o r that of nominal s i z e 15 ( X )o r under, t h e valve d i s c and
v a l v e stem may be c o n s t r u c t e d as a n i n t e g r a l type.

(3) The s h a p e of valve seat shall be of a cone o r a plane.

(4) The d i s c seat may have a c o n s t r u c t i o n t o be b u i l t i n a s o f t seat. I n


t h i s case, i t shall be c o n s t r u c t e d as t o prevent t h e seat from being
loosened.

(5) The c o n s t r u c t i o n t o f a s t e n t h e packing f o r t h e valve of nominal p r e s s u r e


10 K shall involve t h e gland n u t f o r nominal s i z e 65 ( 2 % ) o r under,
and t h e gland b o l t i n g f o r nominal s i z e 80 ( 3 ) or over.

5.2.3 Gate valve The c o n s t r u c t i o n s and shapes of t h e gate valve s h a l l be


as given i n t h e following:

(1) I n t h e case where t h e valve i s closed completely, t h e c e n t e r of valve


seat s u r f a c e of the v a l v e d i s c s h a l l remain h i g h e r than t h e c e n t e r of
t h e v a l v e seat s u r f a c e of t h e valve body.

I n a d d i t i o n , where t h e valve i s opened completely, the valve d i s c


s h a l l n o t remain i n t h e bore of t h e valve seat.

(2) The g a t e valve shall be a valve stem r i s i n g type f o r t h e nominal s i z e


50 ( 2 ) o r under, and a valve stem r i s i n g type o r v a l v e stem n o n r i s i n g
t y p e f o r t h e nominal s i z e 65 (2x1, and shall be as follows:

( a > S u f f i c i e n t s t r e n g t h shall be provided f o r t h e hooking p a r t of t h e


v a l v e d i s c and valve stem i n the valve s t e m r i s i n g type, and t h e
c o l l a r of the stem and i t s s u r f a c e t o be s u b j e c t e d t o p r e s s u r e i n
t h e valve stem n o n r i s i n g type.

(b) I n t h e valve stem n o n r i s i n g type, a packing box shall be provided,


and t h e connection of t h e packing box and t h e bonnet s h a l l be by
bolting .
( 3 ) The connection of t h e valve body and t h e bonnet shall be of screwed-end
t y p e f o r t h e nominal s i z e 50 ( 2 ) o r under, and s h a l l be of screwed-end
t y p e o r flanged-end t y p e and by b o l t i n g f o r t h e nominal s i z e 65 (2x2) o r
over.

(4) The valve body and valve d i s c shall be equipped w i t h a n a p p r o p r i a t e


guide.

(5) Where some reinforcements of valve body are r e q u i r e d , a p p r o p r i a t e r i b s


should p r e f e r a b l y be provided.

5.2.4 L i f t check valve and swing check valve The c o n s t r u c t i o n s and shapes
of t h e l i f t check valve and swing check valve s h a l l be as given i n t h e
following:

(1) The connection of t h e valve body and t h e cover shall be of screwed-end


type o r union t y p e .

(2) The shape of valve seat shall be a cone o r a plane.

(3) The d i s c seat may have a c o n s t r u c t i o n t o be b u i l t i n a s o f t seat. I n


t h i s case, i t shall be constructed as t o prevent t h e seat from being
loosened.

A l i f t check valve of the c o n s t r u c t i o n i n which the s l i d i n g motion of


t h e cover and valve d i s c compresses t h e f l u i d i n t h e cover chamber
shall be provided w i t h a p a r t f o r r e l i e v i n g t h e f l u i d i n t h e cover o r
valve d i s c p a r t .

The shape of t h e guide p a r t of the valve d i s c f o r swing check valve


s h a l l have a n a p p r o p r i a t e shape s u i t e d f o r guiding t h e valve d i s c
securely.

The valve d i s c of the swing check valve shall be s o constructed as t o


open t o t h e p o s i t i o n of a s t o p p e r provided on t h e valve body and t o
c l o s e e a s i l y by a counter flow.

The valve body and valve d i s c of t h e swing check valve s h a l l be


connected by a hinge pin.

6. Appearance The appearance of t h e valve shall comply w i t h J I S B 2003.

7. Materials

7 . 1 Valve of nominal p r e s s u r e 5 K The valve body, bonnet and valve d i s c


of t h e valve of nominal p r e s s u r e 5 K s h a l l be BC6 of J I S H 5111. However,
t h e bonnet and valve d i s c may be any one of C3771BD, C3771BE, C3604BD, and
C3604BE of J I S H 3250.

7.2 Valve of nominal p r e s s u r e 10 K

7.2.1 Valve body, bonnet and valve d i s c The material of t h e valve body,
bonnet and valve d i s c - o f t h e valve of nominal p r e s s u r e 1 0 K s h a l l be BC6 of
J I S H 5111. However, that of t h e bonnet and valve d i s c may a l s o be of
C3771BD o r C3771BE of J I S H 3250.

7.2.2 Valve stem The material f o r t h e valve stem of t h e valve of nominal


p r e s s u r e 1 0 K s h a l l be C3771BD o r C3771BE of J I S H 3250.

7.3 D e z i n c i f i c a t i o n r e s i s t a n t material

7.3.1 Valve d i s c I n t h e case where t h e d e z i n c i f i c a t i o n r e s i s t a n t


countermeasure is required, t h e material of t h e valve d i s c shall be BC6 o r
BC6C of J I S H 5111, o r a b r a s s material t o cope w i t h d e z i n c i f i c a t i o n
resistance.

7.3.2 Valve s t e m I n t h e case where t h e d e z i n c i f i c a t i o n r e s i s t a n t

countermeasure is r e q u i r e d , t h e material of t h e valve stem s h a l l be BC6C of


J I S H 5111 o r a b r a s s material t o cope w i t h d e z i n c i f i c a t i o n r e s i s t a n c e .

Remarks: The b r a s s material f o r d e z i n c i f i c a t i o n r e s i s t a n t


countermeasure shall be as given i n t h e following:

(1) The chemical composition s h a l l be as agreed between t h e


p a r t i e s concerned w i t h d e l i v e r y .

(2) The t e n s i l e s t r e n g t h and e l o n g a t i o n s h a l l be e q u a l t o or


s u p e r i o r t o C3771BD of J I S H 3250.

7.4 S o f t seat The material of t h e s o f t seat shall g e n e r a l l y be the


p o l y t e t r a f l u o r o e t h y l e n e of J I S K 6888, J I S K 6889 and J I S K 6896 o r
p o l y t e t r a f l u o r o e t h y l e n e containing f i l l e r s .

7.5 Packing and gasket The materials of t h e packing and gasket s h a l l be


as given i n t h e following:

(1) Packing The packing shall be a combination of i n o r g a n i c o r organic


f i b r e s and l u b r i c a n t s .

(2) Gasket The gasket shall g e n e r a l l y be a s b e s t o s o r s y n t h e t i c r e s i n .

7.6 J o i n t i n g material The material f o r j o i n t i n g t h e soldered end type


w i t h t h e pipe s h a l l be s o f t s o l d e r a l l o y , and i t s composition shall
g e n e r a l l y be Sn 96.5 % and Ag 3.5 %.

7.7 Other p a r t s The materials f o r t h e o t h e r p a r t s should p r e f e r a b l y be i n


accordance w i t h ( 2 ) of Attached Tables 1 t o 10.

8. Tests

8.1 Shell test

8.1.1 Hydrostatic p r e s s u r e test For t h e h y d r o s t a t i c p r e s s u r e t e s t , open


t h e valve, and apply t o t h e valve body t h e test p r e s s u r e of 1.5 times t h e
maximum permissible working p r e s s u r e i n t h e steady flow a t 120°C o r under.

The t e s t d u r a t i o n s h a l l be i n accordance with Table 7.

8.1.2 Pneumatic p r e s s u r e t e s t For t h e s h e l l t e s t of the valve of nominal


s i z e 50 (2) o r under, pneumatic p r e s s u r e may be used i n s t e a d of h y d r o s t a t i c
p r e s s u r e , and t h e t e s t shall be c a r r i e d o u t i n accordance w i t h t h e
h y d r o s t a t i c p r e s s u r e t e s t , as a p p r o p r i a t e . The t e s t p r e s s u r e i n t h i s case
s h a l l be 0.59 MPa ( 6 kgf/cm2}. However, i n t h e c a s e of t h e pneumatic
p r e s s u r e , r e p r e s e n t a t i v e tests by h y d r o s t a t i c p r e s s u r e s h a l l have been
executed r e s p e c t i v e l y on type, nominal s i z e and nominal p r e s s u r e i n advance.

8.2.1 Hydrostatic p r e s s u r e t e s t The h y d r o s t a t i c p r e s s u r e t e s t shall be

a p p r o p r i a t e , I n t h i s case t h e t e s t p r e s s u r e s h a l l be 0.59 MPa { 6 kgf/cm2 },
and t h e l i f t check valve and swing check v a l v e shall be t e s t e d under t h e

8.3 Actuation t e s t A f t e r t h e valve has been assembled, t h e opening and


c l o s i n g a c t u a t i o n of valve s h a l l be c a r r i e d o u t under t h e no l o a d c o n d i t i o n .

9. I n s p e c t i o n The i n s p e c t i o n of t h e valve shall be c a r r i e d o u t on t h e


following r e s p e c t i v e items i n accordance w i t h t h e test of 8, J I S B 2003, etc.

Valve body p r e s s u r e r e s i s t a n c e R e s u l t s shall conform t o 5.1 (1).

Valve seat leakage R e s u l t s shall conform t o 5.1 (2)

Actuation R e s u l t s shall conform t o 5.1 ( 3 ) .

Constructions. s h a D e s and dimensions R e s u l t s shall conform t o 5.2.

F u r t h e r , t h e t a p e r p i p e t h r e a d of t h e screwed-end type shall be


i n s p e c t e d i n accordance w i t h J I S B 0253. The p o s i t i o n of t h e gauge
diameter i n t h i s case shall be a t t h e end face.

Appearance R e s u l t s s h a l l conform t o 6 .

Material The i n s p e c t i o n of materials shall g e n e r a l l y be conducted on


t h e t e s t r e s u l t s h e e t s of t h e manufacturer and, i f r e q u i r e d , the tests
of chemical a n a l y s e s , mechanical p r o p e r t i e s , etc. shall be c a r r i e d o u t ,
and t h e r e s u l t s shall conform to 7.

10. Designation The valve shall be designated by the Standard number or


"bronze" and type.

Example: In the case of nominal pressure 5 K, nominal size 1/2, metal


seat screwed-end globe valve JIS B 2011-5 K-1/2 screwed-end
globe valve (metal seat), or
Bronze-5 K-1/2 screwed-end globe valve (metal seat)

11. Marking

11.1 Surface of valve body The surface of valve body shall be marked with
the following information.

(1) Nominal pressure and nominal size

(2) Arrow mark indicating the direction of flow (excluding the gate valve)

( 3 ) Manufacturer's name or abbreviation

symbol Z indicating dezincification resistant material.

Remarks: In the case of the check valve, it may be marked on the


surface of the cover.

(2) In the case where the soft seat was used, the symbol of S indicating

Informative r e f e r e n c e 1. Precaution i n use

Preface This Informative r e f e r e n c e supplements t h e matters r e l a t e d t o t h e


p r e s c r i p t i o n s of t h e t e x t of t h i s Standard, and shall n o t
c o n s t i t u t e a p a r t of t h e Standard.

1. S e l e c t i o n of valve I n t h e s e l e c t i o n of t h e valve, t h e following


matters s h a l l be confirmed.

(1) The v a l v e t o be s e l e c t e d shall be one that i s capable of f u l l y d i s p l a y -


i n g i t s f u n c t i o n s i n r e l a t i o n t o t h e equipment o r t h e l i k e on which i t
i s t o be i n s t a l l e d as w e l l as i s i n compliance w i t h t h e l a w s and
ordinances and t h e r e l e v a n t Standards.

(2) The nominal p r e s s u r e of t h e valve i s s u i t e d t o t h e temperature and


p r e s s u r e of f l u i d , and t h e type of t h e v a l v e shall conform t o t h e
c o n t r o l l i n g purposes of t h e f l u i d .

(3) The t y p e s of t h e packing and g a s k e t s h a l l be f i t t e d f o r t h e type and


temperature of t h e f l u i d .

(4) The d i v i s i o n i n use of t h e metal s e a t and s o f t seat shall g e n e r a l l y be


i n accordance w i t h Informative r e f e r e n c e 1 Table 1.

F u r t h e r , t h e p r o p e r t i e s of t h e s o f t seat shall be s u i t a b l e f o r t h e
type and temperature of t h e f l u i d .

I n s t a l l t h e valve i n a c o r r e c t p o s i t i o n .

Where any s e a l i n g agent i s a p p l i e d t o t h e screwed end, pay s u f f i c i e n t


a t t e n t i o n to i t s amount and t h e l i k e .

Throughout t h e e n t i r e a p p a r a t u s and piping system, necessary s u p p o r t s


and f i x i n g s h a l l be made f o r t h e purpose of preventing v i b r a t i o n s due
t o o p e r a t i o n s , expansions and c o n t r a c t i o n s due t o temperatures, and
i n f l u e n c e s from e x t r a o r d i n a r y e x t e r n a l f o r c e , such as earthquake,
ground subsidence, etc.

Adequately remove t h e d i r t and f o r e i g n substances from i n s i d e t h e


v a l v e and piping of t h e equipment, and c a r r y o u t cleaning.

I n connecting t h e valve w i t h t h e p i p e s o r equipment, t a k e care so that


no unreasonable f o r c e could be imposed on each o t h e r .

P a r t i c u l a r l y i n t h e case of the screwed-end type, t a k e care s o


that t h e t i p end of t h e pipe n e i t h e r p r o t r u d e s nor p r e s s u r e - f i t s t o
i n s i d e t h e valve.

I n a d d i t i o n , i n t h e case of t h e flanged-end t y p e , f a s t e n t h e
b o l t s and n u t s uniformly so as not t o cause uneven f a s t e n i n g .

I n connecting t h e soldered-end type, r e f e r t o Informative r e f e r e n c e 2.

Since deformation i n t h e connecting p a r t of t h e soldered-end type w i t h


the p i p e adversely a f f e c t s the soldering strength, take s u f f i c i e n t
c a r e of handling t h e connecting p a r t .

The connection of t h e soldered-end type is c a r r i e d o u t without


disassembling t h e valve, as a r u l e . However, where piping i s c a r r i e d
out a f t e r detaching the bonnet and i n t e r i o r p a r t s from t h e valve body,
pay a t t e n t i o n s o t h a t no deformation could cause on t h e connecting
p a r t , t a k i n g i n t o c o n s i d e r a t i o n of h e a t e f f e c t i n brazing.

F u r t h e r , connect t h e s o f t seat type a f t e r detaching t h e i n t e r i o r


p a r t s without f a i l .

In a d d i t i o n , take s u f f i c i e n t care so as t o prevent t h e s e a l i n g


s u r f a c e between t h e valve body and t h e bonnet from flaws.

C a r r y out t h e connection of t h e soldered-end t y p e w i t h i t s valve i n


"open".

3 . Connecting copper p i p e s of soldered-end type The connecting copper


p i p e s of soldered-end t y p e s h a l l be as given i n t h e following:

(1) Use whichever type of K, L o r M among t h e copper p i p e s f o r p i p i n g s of


J I S H 3300 (Copper and copper a l l o y seamless p i p e s and t u b e s ) .

(2) Do n o t use t h e s e p i p e s s i n c e t h e s e are n o t conforming with. t h e copper


a l l o y tubes f o r h e a t exchanger of J I S H 3300 and JWWA H 101 (Japan
Water Works A s s o c i a t i o n Standard Copper P i p e s f o r Water Works).

4 . J o i n t i n g material f o r soldered-end type The j o i n t i n g materials t o be


used f o r j o i n t i n g t h e soldered-end type are as given i n the following:

(1) The j o i n t i n g material s h a l l be of a s o l d e r i n g metal a l l o y . A hard


s o l d e r a l l o y n e c e s s i t a t e s high temperature h e a t i n g i n t h e j o i n t i n g ,
which may a f f e c t a d v e r s e l y a valve, and t h e r e f o r e t h i s s h a l l not be
used.

(2) Since t h e s o l d e r ( t i n 50 X , l e a d 50 4) e l u t e s l e a d , which i s l i a b l e t o


i n j u r i o u s t o human body, i t shall n o t be used.

5. R e s t r i c t i o n i n use of soldered-end type The tendency of g e n e r a t i o n of


e r r o s i o n and c o r r o s i o n i n a copper pipe remarkably i n c r e a s e s as t h e flow
v e l o c i t y i n t h e connecting copper p i p e w i t h t h e soldered-end valve exceeds 3
m / s , s o that s u f f i c i e n t a t t e n t i o n s h a l l be taken t o observe about 2 m / s as
t h e c r i t e r i o n of a c r i t i c a l flow v e l o c i t y f o r copper p i p e i n general.

6 . Operations The handle o p e r a t i o n s of t h e valve are t o be i n conformity


w i t h t h e types of valve, t y p e s of seat and c o n s t r u c t i o n . The o p e r a t i n g
torque i s as given i n t h e following:

(1) As f o r t h e f a s t e n i n g of t h e valve of s o f t seat, i t can be closed


l i g h t l y by hand, and a handle d r i v e r s h a l l n o t be used.

(2) For t h e valve of metal s e a t , g e n e r a l l y no handle d r i v e r s h a l l be


used. However, f o r a l a r g e s i z e v a l v e which i s d i f f i c u l t t o be
operated by hand, a handle d r i v e r may be used i n t h e range not
exceeding t h e t o r q u e s given i n Informative r e f e r e n c e 1 Table 2.

Preface This Informative r e f e r e n c e supplements t h e matters r e l a t e d t o t h e

c o n s t i t u t e a p a r t of p r e s c r i p t i o n s .

1. Procedure of j o i n t i n g work The procedure of j o i n t i n g a valve w i t h


copper pipe i s as given i n t h e following:

(1) Cutting of copper pipe

(2) Chamfering of pipe ends

(3) C o r r e c t i o n of p i p e ends

(4) Cleaning and p o l i s h i n g of j o i n t p a r t

( 5 ) Application of f l u x and i n s e r t i o n

(6) Heating

(7 Soldering

(8) Treatment a f t e r s o l d e r i n g

(9) T e s t and i n s p e c t i o n

2. Precaution i n j o i n t i n g work I n t h e work of j o i n t i n g valve w i t h copper


pipe, t h e following p r e c a u t i o n s h a l l be taken.

(1) Cutting of copper pipe Cut t h e copper pipe w i t h a p i p e c u t t e r . Where


a hacksaw o r e l e c t r i c c u t t e r i s used, c u t c a r e f u l l y perpendicularly t o
t h e p i p e a x i s s o as not t o cause deformation on t h e s e c t i o n of t h e pipe.

Remove t h e c u t t i n g c h i p s e n t e r e d i n t o t h e p i p e thoroughly.

(2) Chamfering of pipe ends Remove t h e f l a s h e s and b u r r s produced on t h e


i n s i d e and o u t s i d e s u r f a c e s of t h e pipe completely w i t h a reamer o r a
f i l e f o r e x c l u s i v e use o r a k n i f e . In t h i s case, pay s u f f i c i e n t
a t t e n t i o n s o that no c u t t i n g c h i p s e n t e r i n t o the pipe.

(3) Correction of pipe ends Since t h e deformation on t h e pipe end causes


an incomplete j o i n t i n g , c o r r e c t t h e pipe end t o a t r u e c i r c l e using a
pipe-end c o r r e c t i n g t o o l ( s i z i n g t o o l ) corresponding t o each s i z e .

(4) Cleaning and p o l i s h i n g of j o i n t p a r t Wipe o f f o i l s and d i r t on t h e


o u t e r s u r f a c e of copper p i p e and j o i n t p a r t of t h e valve, i f any.
Next, p o l i s h t h e j o i n t p a r t w i t h s t e e l wool o r a w i r e brush t o an
e x t e n t n o t t o mar pipe s u r f a c e s and u n t i l metallic l u s t e r appears t o
remove oxide f i l m . Do n o t touch t h e polished p a r t d i r e c t l y w i t h hands
and w i t h gloves impregnated w i t h o i l , and do not l e t i t c o n t a c t
d i r e c t l y with t h e floor.

Application of f l u x and i n s e r t i o n Apply t h e f l u x t h i n i y a l l over the


circumference of t h e i n t e r m e d i a t e p a r t of the j o i n t l e n g t h of t h e
copper pipe (about 1 / 2 t h e width of l e n g t h of t h e j o i n t p a r t ) . Do not
apply t h e f l u x t o t h e i n n e r s u r f a c e of t h e j o i n t p a r t of t h e valve.
I n s e r t t h e copper p i p e w i t h t h e f l u x a p p l i e d t o reach t h e s t o p p e r i n
t h e j o i n t p a r t of t h e valve. And then r o t a t e t h e copper pipe 1 t o 2
rounds t o a l l o w i t uniformly f i t t h e valve s i d e .

Heating P r i o r t o h e a t i n g , confirm that t h e v a l v e is i n the "open".


I n o r d e r t o p r o t e c t t h e packing from damage, i t should p r e f e r a b l e be
that w e t c l o t h s o r t h e l i k e be put on t h e packing p a r t a t t h e t i m e of
h e a t i n g t o remain t h e temperature unrisen.

When i t i s heated, a t f i r s t preheat t h e j o i n t p a r t a t about 100°C


uniformly t o allow i t expand, then continue t o preheat from t h e
neighboring p o r t i o n of t h e pipe toward t h e j o i n t p a r t , then h e a t t h e
j o i n t p a r t again. I n t h i s case, h e a t i t uniformly by moving t h e flame
i n c i r c u m f e r e n t i a l d i r e c t i o n . Care must be taken not t o h e a t suddenly
w i t h a s t r o n g flame concentrated a t a p o i n t , which may cause cracking.

Soldering When t h e p a r t has a t t a i n e d t h e j o i n t i n g t e m p e r a t u r e , keep


t h e flame away from t h e j o i n t p a r t so that t h e s o l d e r i n g f i l l e r metal
i s not d i r e c t l y melted by t h e flame, and apply t h e t i p end of t h e
s o l d e r i n g f i l l e r metal t o t h e boundary p a r t of t h e valve and copper
pipe. Then, t h e s o l d e r i n g f i l l e r metal begins t o be melted by t h e
temperature of t h e copper pipe and v a l v e , and t o be sucked i n t o a
c l e a r a n c e by a c a p i l l a r y phenomenon. Confirm v i s u a l l y that t h e
s o l d e r i n g f i l l e r metal has completely been d i s t r i b u t e d throughout t h e
joint part.

Since t h e consumption of t h e s o l d e r i n g f i l l e r metal d i f f e r s


g r e a t l y depending on combinations of each s i z e , copper pipe and valve
w i t h i n t o l e r a n c e s , i t shall be confirmed by t h e following criteria.

(a) Confirmation s h a l l be made that t h e f i l l e t is d i s t r i b u t e d


c o n t i n u a l l y over t h e circumference of t h e boundary p a r t of t h e
copper p i p e and valve.

(b) When i t has begun t o overflow and d r i p down the circumference of


t h e boundary p a r t , promptly s t o p feeding of t h e s o l d e r i n g f i l l e r
metal.

Treatment a f t e r s o l d e r i n g When the s o l d e r i n g has f i n i s h e d , cool t h e


j o i n t p a r t w i t h w e t c l o t h s and t h e l i k e as quickly as p o s s i b l e t o

s t a b i l i z e the j o i n t p a r t t o prevent burns.

A f t e r cooling, remove t h e f l u x adhering t o t h e o u t s i d e of t h e


j o i n t p a r t by wiping w e l l w i t h w e t c l o t h s and t h e l i k e .

A t t h e t i m e when t h e piping i s completed, c a r r y o u t test and


i n s p e c t i o n as soon as p o s s i b l e , and then c a r r y o u t f l u s h i n g t o wash
i n s i d e t h e p i p e w i t h water.

(9) Test and inspection For the purposes of detecting missoldering and
leakage on the soldered portions, confirmation shall be made by v i s u a l
inspection and f e e l i n g with hands.

Further, the test pressure of the hydraulic test i s t o be a t most


1 . 5 times the maximum permissible working pressure.
