BSEDE-2A EDUC 126

REFLECTION:

For months of waiting, the time had come. It was the 3 rd day of the month
when our instructor in Educ 126: Facilitating Learner-Centered Teaching &
Learning instructor decided to meet us face to face on our time schedule. I
was quite anxious about the said meeting since it was the first. I really thought
that our instructor was super strict but it was the other way around. Gladly, our
instructor is open-minded and is giving good vibes.

Our 1st meeting was productive. From the checking of attendance up to the
activity. The activity given was about traditional and modern teaching and was
done by group. Each group was given the chance to present their ideas about
the pros and cons of traditional and modern teaching. Traditional learning is
teacher-centered and this method makes passive learners. This do not
develop the student’s critical thinking and decision-making skills. In this
method it is less destruction but less interaction. Students in this method have
limited vocabularies unlike in modern. In modern teaching, it will be easy to
access information through browsing in the internet. It widens the students’
vocabularies. It also promotes collaboration and interaction. Students can also
express their creative ideas and apply it. But it also have constraints, one is
over reliance to technology which I totally agree. Students tend to isolate
themselves because of dependence to technology. It is also more destructive
in which students lose focus on things that are essential.

In traditional education, students learn to teach and learn at the same time
from their fellow classmates which makes them learn about the very basics of
the society in which we are living. Modern education not just teaches the
students about the topics in the books but also helps them to interact and
socialize with the environment which in turn helps the students in their overall
progress.
