Computational Thinking and Communication Skills

Computational thinking (CT) skill is a cognitive process that involves logical reasoning in
problem-solving and helps convenience to understand of making a procedure or system.
Computational thinking can be described as the cognitive process managed by the metacognition
to proceed in an efficient way of learning repetitive task completion. Computational thinking
have a five kinds of component skill through the stage of abstraction, generalization,
decomposition, algorithm, and debugging (Ridlo et al, 2022).

The Abstraction is a skills to analyze the main patterns of the important data. Data has been
collected to describe system performance from creating a model of data sources. Generalization
shows how students use the sources to a wider point of view in order to formulate a solution in
general terms so that it can be applied to another problem. Decomposition is the skill to solve
problem convenience and easier to understand by degrading the complex problem into smaller
parts together with the structural process. Algorithms is a skill to devise a steps of each
procedures set of operations/actions and then automatically applying the procedure to identical
problems and discover a solution. Repetition is the improvement of a solution until it provides a
better result. Debugging skill shows the complement of bugs by finding and fixing errors that
prevent the system from work correctly (Ridlo et al, 2021).

In the implementation of computational thinking, algorithms and debugging hold the point of the
way students to find and fixing problem that prevent the error system and then formulate solution
in order to discover and fixing them. Those skills involved in computational thinking will helps
students understand and solve the problems from the computing perspective (Ridlo et al, 2021).
In order to fixing the problem after they find out the error of system is communicate and shows it
to their lecturer. To communicate it, the student need to have a communication skills.
Communication skills can helps the student to find, identify, analyze and repair error syntax from
the problem through convey it to the lecture and other.

Communication is a basic conception and an important part of learning process. In the learning
process, communication skills can helps students build understanding concepts, and students can
analyze problems. In the learning process, students need to have a appropriate communication
skills, especially in the activities of observation and clarification as well as related to the process
of conveying information or data, either in writing or orally. Furthermore, argues that
communication skills are indispensable in achieving learning success. Students with appropriate
communication skills would be able to convey different aspects of the learning material both
orally and in writing (Nikmah et al, 2021).

Communication is a process of interaction or reciprocal relationships between individuals and

other individuals to convey messages to each other. Communication skills involves orally and
writing skills. Effectively communication can be occur if the communication achieve the
indicators of achievement in communication skills. In education, the learning process will be
effective if communication and interaction between teachers and students occur intensively
(Safitri et al, 2022). In addition, newest knowledge can find out from appropriate
communication between students and teachers in the learning process. (Malaningtyas, 2022).

Furthermore, based on the literature review done by Maulidiyah et al (2022) Communication

skills have a essential effect on learning achievement because communication is part of the
learning process. In the learning process requires a communication process carried out by
teachers and students. The essence of learning is characterized by occur of communication
activities. So that means, it shows that the learning process in the educational environment is an
activity that applies the communication process. The learning process will occur well if the
interaction between teachers and students or students with other students is in appropriate
conditions of communication. Vice versa, the learning process didn’t happen well if interactions
between students and teachers or students with other students is in tough conditions of
communication (Maulidiyah et al, 2022).

Communication skills are one way to increase student knowledge individually or in groups and
improve creativity. With the aim that students can be motivated to learn, have a positive attitude
and can improve communication skills. Communication skills are considered as one of the most
needed abilities today as an ability. Communication indicators into several mathematical and
also in science activities, including : (1) State the situation and compile a mathematical model
and solve it. (2) Linking problem to mathematical ideas. (3) Write down the ideas in your own
words (4) Describe the completion procedure (Paroqi, 2020).
Indicators communication skills Student competencies
