What I Need to Know
This module covers the key concepts related to geometric figures construction. In this
module, the students will illustrates and master the use of compass and straightedge in
constructing perpendicular bisector of segment, parallel and perpendicular lines and
constructing bisector of a angle . Varied activities were given to deepen the ideas and transfer
their knowledge towards the different lessons. The basic knowledge and skills acquired in this
module is very helpful in the future especially engineering related works. The scope of this
module is useful in many different learning situations. The language used is very suitable to
the vocabulary and language of a Grade-7 learner.

Uses a compass and straightedge to bisect line segments and angles.
Uses a compass to construct perpendicular and parallel lines.

Procedure
1. Draw line segment QR.

2. Set the compass width which is more than half the length of the segment QR. Place
the tip of the compass from point Q and draw an arc 1.

3. Use the same width of compass in step 2 and place the tip of compass at point R then,
draw arc 2 that intersects arc 1 .Label the intersections as points O and P.

Angle – a figure formed by two intersecting rays with a common endpoint .
Angle bisector- a segment that divides an angle into two congruent angles
What Is It
► Constructing an angle bisector
Procedure:
1. Draw angle ABC using a straightedge .

2. Place the compass at point B with a fixed opening and draw an arc that cuts
ray AB at D and ray BC at E
3. Use the same opening of compass , place the tip of the compass at E and
draw arc 1 between the sides of the angle ABC .
4. Use the same width of the compass and place the tip of compass at point D
then, draw an arc 2 intersecting arc 1 at F.
5. Connect points B and F using a ruler .Thus, Segment BF is the bisector of the
angle ABC. 𝐴𝑛𝑔𝑙𝑒 𝐴𝐵𝐹 𝑖𝑠 𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑔𝑟𝑢𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝑡𝑜 𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑙𝑒 𝐹𝐵𝐶 (∠𝐴𝐵𝐹 ≅ ∠𝐹𝐵𝐶 ).

Parallel lines- are lines in a plane which have the same distance and slope and never
intersect .

A. Constructing parallel lines given a point and line
1. Given line AB and point O . Draw a line that passes through O intersects at A
2. Place the tip of the compass on A and draw an arc that intersects the two lines, line
AO and line AB. Name the intersection as Q and R.
3. With the same opening of the compass , place the tip of the compass on O, and draw
an arc that intersects that line AO . Name the intersection of the arc
as point P.
4. Use the distance of Q and R for the opening of the compass. With the same opening
of the compass , place the tip of the compass at P , and then draw an arc in between
line AO and line AB, aligned to point O . Then place the tip of compass at O , then
draw an arc intersecting the latter arc . Name the intersection as point K.
