Lesson 8 – Scanning, Printing, CD Burning, ADTP

Lesson Overview

This lesson provides the trainees the necessary skill in scanning, printing, CD burning using Nero and
lay-outing using Adobe Photoshop.

Lesson Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the trainees will be able to:

 Scan all kinds of pictures.


 Print documents, photos, certificates etc.
 Print CD label.
 Burn data, sound, video files into CD or DVD format.
 Know how to lay-out greeting cards, enhance pictures etc.
 Know how to use the card reader

How to use the HP Image Zone software

The HP Solution Center is the program that gets you


started scanning pictures and documents. From the HP
Solution Center you can:

● Perform scanning and copy functions


● Access help and troubleshooting information
● Access HP Image Zone to edit your scans
● Modify settings and preferences
To start a scan:
Double-click the HP Solution Center icon on the
desktop, click the tab for the scanner, and then click on the
task you want to perform.

Note If the HP Solution Center icon is not available


on the desktop,
1. click Start,
2. click Programs (or All Programs),
3. click HP, and then
4. click HP Solution Center.

Scan pictures
1. Place the original face down on the scanner glass, as indicated by the reference marks, and then
close the lid.

2. Press the Scan button . The HP Scanning dialog box appears.

3. Click Scan.

4. When the scan is finished, place an item on the scanner glass and then click Scan to scan another
picture, or click Done.

5. The software saves the scan to a subfolder in the My Scans folder located within the My
Documents folder. The subfolder is named for the current year and month. The scanned image
is also sent to HP Image Zone by default.

1. Place the original face down on the scanner glass, as indicated by the reference mark.

2. Press the Scan button The HP Scanning dialog box appears.

3. Under the What are you scanning? heading, click Document, and then select one of the following
options:
a. Color – This is the default setting.
b. Grayscale – converts any colored original to grayscale, and creates a smaller file size
than the Color option.
c. Black & White – the best setting for scanning a black and white graphic, but not
suitable for color or grayscale originals if you want to preserve detail.

4. Click Scan.

5. When you are finished with that page, place the next page on the glass and click Scan to scan
another document or page.

6. When you are finished with all pages, click Done. After you click Done, the software sends the
scanned file to the specified location.

Scan multiple pictures with one scan

You can scan multiple pictures at the same time from the scanner glass. Arrange the pictures
that you want to scan on the HP scanning device glass. For the best results, leave at least 0.25
inches (6 mm) of space between the edges of the pictures.

Scan negatives

To scan 35 mm negatives, use the negative strip holder. The negative strip holder
is stored within the slide holder that is part of the built-in transparent materials adapter

• Open the scanner lid and remove the negative strip holder from the slide holder.

2. Slide a negative strip into the negative strip holder so that the shiny side of the negative faces you.

3. Insert the negative strip holder back into the slide holder, and then close the scanner lid.

4. Press the Scan Film button on the scanner, or click Scan Film in the HP Solution Center.

5. Select Picture.

6. Select Scan negatives using the Transparent Materials Adapter (TMA). If you want to preview the scanned
image, select the Show Preview check box on the screen, or begin the scan from the HP Solution Center.

7. Click Scan.

8. Follow the instructions on the screen to finish scanning. The scan is sent to the destination selected in the HP
Scanning dialog box.

9. When finished, remove the negative strip. Place the negative strip holder back into the scanner lid for convenient
storage.
Printing
Loading Sheets of Paper

1. Open the paper support, and then slide out the extension.

2. Lower the output tray and slide out the extension.

3. Position the left edge guide so that the distance between the two edges guides is slightly wider
than the width of your paper.

4. Fan a stack of paper, and then tap it on a flat surface to even the edges.

5. Load the paper with the printable side up so it is against the right edge guide, and slide it into the
sheet feeder. Then slide the left edge guide against the left edge of the paper.

1. Open the file you want to print.

2. Access the printer driver.

3. Click the Main tab, then make the Quality Option setting.
See the following section for details on the Quality
Option settings.

4. Select Sheet as the Source setting.

5. Make the appropriate Type setting.

6. Make the appropriate Size setting. You can also define a


custom paper size.

7. Select Portrait (tall) or Landscape (wide) to change the


orientation of your printout.

8. Click OK to close the printer driver settings dialog box.

9. Print your data.

Use EPSON File Manager to:

1. Retrieve images from a scanner, digital camera, or memory card and send the files directly to the
application you want to use

2. View supported images as thumbnails

3. View the various applications you can use as project icons in the launch area

4. Search for images on your hard disk

5. View images as a slideshow

Starting EPSON Easy Photo Print

There are two ways to access EPSON Easy


Photo Print:

1. Double-click the EPSON File Manager icon


on the desktop, select the images to use,
then click the Easy Photo Print icon in the
upper part of the EPSON File Manager
window.

2. For Windows:
Click Start, point to All Programs
(Windows XP) point to EPSON Creativity
Suite, then click EPSON Easy Photo Print.

Printing on CD/DVD

Starting EPSON Print CD

There are two ways to access EPSON Print


CD:

1. Double-click the EPSON File Manager icon


on the desktop, then click the CD Label
Print icon in the upper part of the EPSON
File Manager window.

2. For Windows:
Click Start, point to All Programs, point to
EPSON Print CD, then click EPSON Print

Positioning the CD/DVD

1. Make sure that the printer is on

2. Open the printer cover and the CD/DVD guide

3. Place the CD/DVD on the CD/DVD tray with the label


surface up.

4. With the CD/DVD loaded printable side up, gently insert the
CD/DVD tray along the base of the CD/DVD guide until
the marks on the CD/DVD tray and the CD/DVD guide
match each other.

5. Click Print on the File menu. The Print dialog box appears.

6. Make sure that EPSON Stylus Photo R230 Series is selected


as the printer

7. Select CD/DVD or CD/DVD Premium Surface as the Media


Type setting.

8. Select None as the Print Confirmation Pattern setting, and


then click Print.

Printing on Envelopes

1. Access the printer driver.

2. Click the Main tab, then make the Quality


Option setting. Select Sheet as the Source
setting.

3. Select Envelope as the Type setting.

4. Select the appropriate envelope size from the


available Size settings. You can also define a
custom paper size. For details, see the
following section.

5. Select Landscape as the Orientation setting.

6. Click OK to close the printer driver settings


dialog box.

1. Start Nero StartSmart, select the ‘Data’ category and click on ‘Make Data Disc’.

Nero Express 6 starts automatically and the compilation window for data opens
2.. In the window, click on the ‘Add’ button to open the window for selecting files.

3. Select the desired files and click on the ‘Add’ button to transfer them to the compilation.
4. Once you have finished adding files, click on the ‘Finished’ button to close the window
and return to the Nero Express 6 screen.

5. All the files you have added appear in the compilation window. Click on the 'Next' button
to advance to the burning window.

6. Before burning the disc, make the final settings.

7. Click on the ‘Burn’ button to start burning the disc.

8. Click on the 'Next' button to advance to the selection window.

9. Select the desired option or close Nero Express 6.

1. Start Nero StartSmart, select the ‘Audio’ category and click on ‘Make Audio CD’.

Nero Express 6 starts automatically and the compilation window for audio
discs opens.
2. In the window, click on the ‘Add’ button to open the window for selecting files.

3. Select the desired files and click on the ‘Add’ button to transfer them to the
compilation.

4. Once you have finished adding files, click on the ‘Finished’ button to close the window and
return to the Nero Express 6 screen.

5. All the files you have added appear in the compilation window. Click on the 'Next' button
to advance to the burning window.

6. Before burning the disc, make the final settings.

7. Click on the ‘Burn’ button to start burning the disc.

The burning process starts and you will see information about the current status.

8. Click on the 'Next' button to advance to the selection window.

Select the desired option or close Nero Express 6.

1. Start Nero StartSmart, select the ‘Copy and Backup’ category and click on ‘Copy Disc’.

Nero Express 6 starts automatically and the selection window for the drives and the final
burning settings opens up.

2. As the source drive, you should select the drive containing the disc to be copied.

3. As the destination drive, select the recorder you want to use to copy the disc.

4. In the ‘Quick Copy’ section, you can determine how the disc is to be copied.
􀂃 If this option is selected, the copy is made directly, i.e. from drive to drive. This
method is quick but is susceptible to errors.
􀂃 If this option is not selected, an image file for the original disc is first of all
created on the hard drive and the image file is then burned. This method takes
longer and the size of the image file, and therefore the required hard disc
space, corresponds to the quantity of data to be copied from the original disc.

5. Once you have made all your settings, click on the ‘Burn’ button to start burning the disc.

6. Click on the 'Next' button to advance to the selection window.

7. Select the desired option or close Nero Express 6.
Using Card Reader

 SUPPORTS: various kinds of memory cards
 Fast Data/Files Access and Transfer Rate up to 480Mb/Sec
 Draw Power directly from USB Port

 Truly Plug & Play and hot swapping capable – just plug in the other
end of the cable wire to the card reader and the other end to any of the
USB port; automatically windows will detect the newly inserted device
and install the driver. It is then ready for use.

 To view the contents of the memory card; insert the card to a
particular slot in the card reader where it will fit.

 Automatically an icon will appear in the system tray.

 You can also check the my computer window to verify the card drives.

 After use: before pulling out the card from the card reader make sure to
do the following:
1. Click on my computer icon at the desktop
2. Right click on the specific drive of the card
3. Then click on eject
4. Then you may now take out the card from the card reader

 If you are done using the card reader and wish to detach it from the
computer be sure to do the following:
1. Right click on the green arrow icon at the system tray

2. Click on safely remove hardware


3. A window will pop up. Select USB

4. Click on stop button.

5. Then a stop hardware device window will come out.


6. Click on USB Mass storage device
7. Click OK.

 A message will come out stating that it is now safe to remove hardware.
 You may now unplug the card reader from the computer.
