Lesson 5 – Installing Software

Lesson Overview

This practical hands-on training will provide the trainees the skill in installing various software like
the MS Office, Norton Ghost, Adobe Photoshop and Nero Burning ROM.

Lesson Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the trainees will be able to:

 Install MS Office
 Properly manage to use Norton Ghost
 Install Adobe Photoshop
 Install Nero Burning ROM

Pre-Installation

Before installing Microsoft Office XP, ensure that your computer meets the minimum hardware and
system requirements

1. Open the CD case and place Disk 1 into your CD-ROM drive. The installation program should
start automatically. The following will appear on your screen.

2. Enter your name and initials in the User name and Initials fields, respectively. Enter the CD Key
(located on the back of the CD's case and called Product Key) into the Product Key field. Click Next.

3. Read the End-User License Agreement. Select the I accept the terms in the License Agreement
option, then click Next to continue.

4. Leave Install Now selected for the default install if you are a novice user. If you are comfortable
with selecting specific software packages to install, select the Custom option instead. This document
only covers the default installation. Click Next.

5. A new window will appear, verifying the components that you wish to install. If the information
is correct, click Install; otherwise, click Back and make the necessary changes.

6. Microsoft Office XP will install to your computer. The installation may take several minutes.

7. If the program installs correctly, a Microsoft Office XP window will appear, stating that the
program has been installed successfully. Click OK to complete the installation.

8. You may have to restart your computer. Save any opened documents or files before restarting
to avoid data loss.

Microsoft Office icons will appear on your computer's Desktop. This installation will install
Microsoft Internet Explorer and Outlook onto your computer if they are not there already. It also
may update any versions of the software currently installed on your computer.

I – To Create A Ghost Image File From The Source Hard Drive
(To navigate the program, use the arrow keys, tab key then
Spacebar or Enter for selection)

1) When Ghost starts, read the Welcome Screen then press Enter.

2) Select Local, press the right arrow key

3) Select Disk, press the right arrow key

4) Press the down key to select To Image, then press Enter

5) Select the source drive to backup

6) Select the destination drive for the image file

7) Use the tab key to navigate the menu, then press the arrow keys to
select the drive

8) Enter the filename for the image, press Enter

9) Press the right arrow key to select fast, then press Enter

10) Press the right arrow key to select Yes, then press Enter

11) Norton Ghost will start creating the image

12) When the process is completed, press Enter to continue then restart the
computer

II – To Restore the Image To The Destination Hard
Drive

1) When you see the Welcome Screen, press Enter

2) Select Local then press the right arrow key

3) Select Disk then press the right arrow key

4) Press the down arrow key to select From Image, press Enter

5) Navigate through the menu by using the tab key

6) Select the drive the contains the image files, press Enter

7) Select the filename of the image file, press Enter

8) Select the destination drive, press Enter

9) Press the Tab key to select the Ok button then press Enter

10) Press the right arrow key to select yes then press Enter

11) The program will restore the image

12) When restoration is finished, press Enter to restart the computer
Installing Adobe Photoshop CS

1. Insert the installation CD to the CD-Rom drive.


2. Follow the instructions on the screen. Or, if the installation program does not start automatically:
a. Click Start, then click Run. The Run window opens.
b. In the Open box type: X:\SETUP.EXE (where x is the letter of the CD-ROM drive).
3. Click accept button to accept license agreement.

4. In the Customer Information window, enter your name, your department, and the serial number
issued to you upon payment for the Adobe Photoshop CS2 license, and click Next.

5. In the Destination Folder window, click Next.
6. In the File Association window, click Next.

7. In the Ready to Install the Program window, click Install to begin the installation.
8. When the installation has completed, clear the Show the readme file check box, and click Finish.
Installing Nero Burning ROM
1. Insert the Nero CD into the CD/DVD Drive
2. An installation menu appears, in which you can install the desired components.
Click on the appropriate button to start the installation wizard.
3. If the program does not start automatically, select the CD/DVD drive, containing
the Nero CD in Explorer. Double click on the ‘setup.exe’ program in the main directory.
4. In the welcome window, you can once again see what you want to install.
Click on Next to continue with the installation,

5. Click on ‘I accept all terms of the preceding license agreement.’
6. Complete the fields ‘User Name’, ‘Organization’ and ‘Serial Number’.
The installation wizard then automatically installs the selected program
7. After the automatic installation, you can either restart your computer or exit the
installation wizard.
8. To close the installation menu, click on ‘finish’. To install further components, click on
the appropriate button and carry out the installation with the aid of the
wizard.
9. If necessary, restart your PC so that all the new settings will take effect.
