Preface
Thank you for purchasing the Canon imageRUNNER 1750iF/1750/1740iF/1740/
1730iF/1730. Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the machine to
familiarize yourself with its capabilities, and to make the most of its many functions.
After reading this manual, store it safely in the CD case for future reference.

Computer A computer that can run the above operating systems.
Display A resolution of 1024 × 768 pixels or higher.

IMPORTANT
• Depending on the configuration of your computer, some functions may not operate
correctly.
• Due to your computer environment, this Manual CD-ROM may not operate properly.
• If this Manual CD-ROM does not operate correctly on a computer running Windows Vista/
7, try running it in the Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode.
NOTE
At least 250 MB free hard disk space is required.

Manual CD-ROM Menu


The Manual CD-ROM enables you to select and view the PDF guides that are
included on this CD-ROM. You can also search for functions that you want to use or
learn more about.

How to Start the Manual CD-ROM Menu


Insert the Manual CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive of your computer. If you are using
a computer running Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003, the Manual CD-ROM Menu is
displayed.
If you are using a computer running Windows Vista/7 or Mac OS X, start the
application program in the Manual CD-ROM to display the CD-ROM Menu.

NOTE
• The screen shots used in this manual are those taken when using the Windows operating
system.
• The screen shots used in this manual may differ from actual displays.
• It may take some time for the screen shown on the next page to load if you are starting the
CD-ROM from your CD-ROM drive. It is recommended that you save the contents of the
CD-ROM to the hard disk of your computer.

Manual CD-ROM Menu Screen

The following is an explanation of the buttons on the Manual CD-ROM Menu screen.
a Search d Install All Files
Enter the names of specific functions or Click to install all of the PDF guides on this
terms, and then click [Search]. You can also CD-ROM on your computer. (This button
select an individual PDF guide to search from appears only when the Menu screen is
the drop-down list. started from the CD-ROM.)

NOTE
• The Install All Files function can be used only if your computer is running the Windows
operating system. This function enables you to create a shortcut to the Manual CD-ROM
application on your desktop, as well as specify the destination folder to save the Manual
CD-ROM.

• If you are using a Macintosh computer, copy the folder icon that contains the manual icon
in the Manual CD-ROM, and save it to the hard disk of your computer.
• If you copied the contents of the Manual CD-ROM to your computer using the Install All
Files function or by copying the folder in the CD-ROM manually, double-click the desktop
shortcut or the program file in the folder you copied to display the CD-ROM menu.

Searching All the PDF Guides


You can easily find out the pages in various PDF guides that mention the function you
want to use or learn more about.

1. Select [All Guides] from the drop-down list ➞ enter the name of the
function or term to search (e.g. copy).

IMPORTANT
Enter a phrase of at least three characters for the function or term.
NOTE
• You can enter a string of characters to search for terms that include the searched string of
characters.
Examples: Enter “sign” to search for all terms that include “sign,” such as “design,” “sign,”
and “signature.”
• You can select whether to search an individual PDF guide or all of the PDF guides, from
the drop-down list next to the Search field.

2. Click [Search].

The search results are displayed.

3. Select the function name or term from the list of search results.

The name of the PDF guide that contains the searched function name or term is stated on
the left side of the screen, and the text before and after the function name is displayed.
If there are more than 11 search results, click [Next] to display the rest of the search
results.
Click the topic that you want to view on the left. The corresponding page is displayed on
the right side of the screen. The searched term is highlighted in black or yellow.
Click [Return to MENU] to return to the CD-ROM Menu.

Opening/Saving PDF Guides
The following procedure describes how to open the PDF guides included on this
CD-ROM, and how to save the PDF guides to your computer.

1. To open a PDF guide, move your mouse over the desired guide ➞ click
[View this document].

The PDF guide opens on the right side of the screen, and a list of chapter titles is
displayed on the left.

❑ To display a list of chapter titles for the PDF guide, move your mouse over the desired
guide ➞ click [View Chapter Titles].

A list of each chapter and a brief description of each chapter is displayed.
Click a chapter title to display the table of contents for the selected chapter. To close
the chapter titles list, click [Close], located in the upper right corner of the screen.

2. To save a PDF guide to your computer, move your mouse over the
desired guide ➞ click [Copy to hard disk].
IMPORTANT
If you save each PDF guide separately to your computer, you cannot jump to another
guide using the links between the guides.

3. Navigate to the appropriate folder on your computer’s hard drive ➞ click


[Save].

The following is an explanation of the buttons displayed on the PDF Guide screen.

Searching Individual PDF Guides
You can easily search the pages of an individual PDF guide for the function you want
to use or learn more about.

1. Select the PDF guide that you want to search from the CD-ROM menu.

2. Enter the function name or term that you want to search (e.g. paper jams)
in the window above the [Search] button ➞ click [Search].

The search results are displayed.

IMPORTANT
Enter a phrase of at least three characters for the function or term.

Jumping to Other PDF Guides on the CD-ROM
You can jump to a referenced page within the same PDF guide, or another PDF guide
on the CD-ROM.

1. Click a cross-reference link to a page within the same guide, or a


reference to a different PDF guide on the CD-ROM.

If the link refers to a page within the same PDF guide, the display jumps to the referenced
page.
If the link refers to a chapter in another PDF guide, the display jumps to the chapter title
page for the chapter that the link refers to in the PDF guide.
If the link refers to another PDF guide, the display jumps to the cover of the referenced
guide.

Click [Previous view] to return to the page that you were viewing in the original PDF before
jumping to the referenced page or PDF.
