Gamification
Prior Beliefs About Gamification

In the past I had only seen

gamification used in PE classrooms
for warm-ups or small activities. It
seemed like a cool concept but I
wasn’t sure how effective it would
be for student learning. I saw it more
as a novel activity for students.

Attention and Focus

Gaming has been shown to improve

focus and attention in children.
Along with this, games provide
interesting and captivating worlds
for students to learn in.

Social Emotional Learning

In combination with class

discussions and other assignments,
gaming has been shown to help
students develop community and
learn and grow their social
emotional skills.

Safe Learning Environment

Gaming gives students a safe space

to try new things, explore, and fail.
There is less stigma and anxiety
attributed to losing a game than to
failing a test or assignment.

Current Beliefs About Gamification

I think gaming is a great way to

deepen student learning and keep
student engagement with content
high. It also provides teachers a
unique view into how students
process information and problem
solve.
