DERIVATIONS
The following are the measurements of the width of the river, and the dimensions and
angles of the bridge including the road, posts, and beams.

RIVER
The river between Puerto Galera and Verde Island is too deep to cross. So, our company
measured a 3200 ft line from point A to B on one bank of the river then marked a point C on
the other bank which is directly opposite of point A. We measured the angle CBA which is
50°.

Thus, the width of the river is 3813.61 feet.

DESIGNSCAPE | PAGE 08
THE BRAVE CROSSING
The Brave Crossing Bridge consists of beams, posts, a dome, and a road which all have
calculated measurements to ensure the durability, safety, and resistance of the bridge.

BEAM
In its most basic form, a beam bridge consists of a horizontal beam that is supported at
each end by piers. The weight of the beam pushes straight down on the piers. The beam
itself must be strong so that it doesn't bend under its own weight and the added weight of
crossing traffic. Brave Crossing bridge has two newly invented triangular beams which is
used to support the bridge. The 20 ft of the beam is buried underground. To measure the
beams: ?

335 ft.

340 ft.

The beam is split into 2 for measuring purposes.

a=335 c=340

G b=? P

Side b is 58.09 ft. Thus

b=58.09

To find the whole triangle/beam

DESIGNSCAPE | PAGE 10
To find the whole triangle/beam, multiply 58.09 to 2
58.09 x 2 = 116.8

116.8 ft.

335 ft.

340 ft.

Therefore, the beams of the Brave Crossing Bridge are 116.8 ft. wide

POST
The bridge posts are robust, vertical structures strategically positioned along the bridge to
provide foundational support. It must be meticulously engineered for stability and
resilience, because they contribute to the overall balance and structural integrity of the
bridge. Brave Crossing bridge has two posts on opposite ends which is used to support the
bridge. The 20 ft. of the post is buried underground. For easier structural planning, the area
of these posts must be found. To find the area of the posts:

335 ft. Therefore, the posts of the Brave Crossing Bridge

have an area of 100,500 square feet.

300 ft.

DESIGNSCAPE | PAGE 11
DOME
The dome is the main highlight of the Brave Crossing Bridge, it is located at the middle part
and it covers almost half of the bridge. It is a parabola shape that has 4 supporting towers
that connect at the peak of the structure (hyperbola). Its height is 350 ft, length is 1906.81,
and width is 116 ft. We will solve for the top view of the Brave Crossing’s dome. Since the
connected supporting towers create a hyperboloid structure, we will solve two hyperbolas in
1 graph. Thus, let us set the vertex at (0, 0).

First, let us solve for hyperbola a. For the transverse axis, let us the major axis as 1906.81 and
the minor as 116.

Now, let us solve for hyperbola b.

Thus, the dome of the Brave Crossing is graphed as shown below

DESIGNSCAPE | PAGE 12
As seen in the famous San Francisco Bridge, we would also want to adapt the same vibes
of light but as one center light so that we could prevent damage. In identifying where
should we place the light, we used a parabolic equation. let us set the coordinates to (1,
953.405) and (1, -953.405) since the total length of the bridge is 3813.61 and the dome is
1906.81.

Thus, we will place the center light at 0.00026.

ROAD
Since the beam is 116.8 ft. wide, we can create a 100 ft. wide road and a 30 ft. pedestrian
lane. We will make a 4 way-lane and 1 pedestrian lane, one each both side of the bridge. To
have an equal length of road, divide 100 by 4.

Road:
100 ÷ 4 = 25
Thus, we will have four 25-foot wide lane which meets the standard measurement of a road
lane.

Pedestrian Lane:
30 ÷ 2 = 15
The Brave Crossing will have two 15-foot pedestrians both at the left and right sides of the
bridge.

DESIGNSCAPE | PAGE 13
DERIVATION
ANALYSIS
RIVER
Since it is impractical to measure the width of the
river between Puerto Galera and Verde Island, it is
estimated with the use of a trigonometric function
“tangent”, with 3200 ft as the adjacent and a
degree of 50°. Thus, was able to come up with an
estimated measurement of 3813.61 ft as the width
of the river.
In trigonometry, the tangent function is used to
find the slope of a line between the origin and a
point representing the intersection between the
hypotenuse and the altitude of a right triangle.
Thus, this served as a basis for computing the final
dimensions, measurements, and designs of the
Brave Crossing Bridge.

BRIDGE
The distance of the Brave Crossing bridge is
identified based on the distance between Puerto
Galera and Verde Island. Since the width of the
river is 3813.61, the bridge will be 3813.61 long. This is
to ensure that the bridge has assurance to the
community that it will be safe when traveling
above water. Moreover, it is ANGELIQUE,
to ensure that the
bridge will be enough to reach one place to
MANALAD
another and vice versa.

DESIGNSCAPE | PAGE 14
ROAD
Traveling is fun however traffic is inevitable. Thus,
the Brave Crossing Bridge is designed to have a
4-lane 100 ft. wide road which is 25 feet per lane.
The bridge would also have a 15 ft pedestrian lane
on each side having a total of 30. All of these would
equate to a 130 ft. wide bridge.
This measurement is enough to reduce head-on
crashes, run-off-road crashes, and sideswipe
crashes. Additionally, it solves and improves traffic
flow as there’ll be much wider space. And most
importantly, it can help cars give way to medical
ambulances and other road emergencies.
The Road of the Brave Crossing also eases the
transaction and travel time from Puerta Galera to
Verde Island, and vice versa. From almost 31 hours
of traveling, this can be shortened up to 1-2 hours.
Brave Crossing provides a convenient and fast
mode of transportation, connecting remote and
rural areas to urban areas. This improved
connectivity promotes social and economic
development in rural areas and makes it easier for
people to access essential services like healthcare,
education, and employment opportunities.

DOME
The dome is the main highlight of the Brave Crossing
Bridge. It is 350 ft. tall and 1906.81 long. it has a
hyperbolic tower that supports it and is a parabolic
ANGELIQUE,
shape. We installed a dome since it promotes more
MANALAD
efficient air circulation and keep temperatures even
throughout the structure. This can make them two to
four times more energy-efficient

DESIGNSCAPE | PAGE 15
POST
The Brave Crossing has 2 installed posts on both
ends of the bridge. It is used to serve as a carrier of
the weight of the bridge which increases the
durability, safety, and efficiency of the Brave
Crossing bridge. 20 ft of the post is buried
underground to ensure that it is stable and that no
harm may pose a risk to the community.

BEAM
A beam bridge is the most simple type of bridge.
In its most basic form, the horizontal member of
the beam bridge, the span, rests on two vertical
supports. In architecture, a horizontal beam carries
vertical loads by bending. As the beam bridge
bends, it undergoes horizontal compression on the
top. In our company, Designscape, we have
invented a newly innovated triangular beam which
can withstand the heavy weight of the bridge. it is
116.9 ft wide and 335 ft. long. This measurements
are enough to support Brave Crossing.
