This study aims to determine the Acceptability of Rice ( Oryza

Sativa) husk and Coconut (Cocos Nucifera) peat as a Soil Substitute to

the Growth and Germination of Tomato (Solanum Lycopersicum) seeds.

1. What is the germination rate of the Tomato (Solanum

Lycopersicum) seed by utilizing the Soil Substitute in terms of:

Specifically, it aims to answer the following:

a. number of leaves

b. . length of stem

Materials such as mortars and pestle, graduated cylinder, pairs of gloves

etc., were gathered from the Baao National High School, Science and

Research Laboratory. Next, the apparatuses were washed and sterilized it

to boiled water. Lastly, the apparatuses were dried.

The tomato ( Solanum lycopersicum) seeds were collected by

the researchers from a local farmer at San Francisco, Municipality of Baao.

The rice (Oryza sativa) husk are collected in rice mill at San Ramon, Baao,

Camarines Sur. While coconut ( Cocos nucifera) peat were collected from

a local farmer at Salvacion, Baao, Camarines Sur.

PREPARATION OF EACH TREATMENT

A rice (Oryza sativa) husk was placed in the first pottery with soil,

another was placed in the second pottery with coconut ( Cocos nucifera)

peat then the third pottery was the mixed coconut ( Cocos nucifera) peat

and rice (Oryza sativa) husk. For control seeds where grown in a soil

soaked with distilled water. Each pottery was labeled as Treatment 1(with

rice husk and soil), Treatment 2(with coconut peat), Treatment 3 (with

mixed rice husk and coconut peat).

Conclusion #1

The growth response of Tomato in terms of number of leaves and

height of stem was determined and measured by the researchers. In terms

of number of leaves, treatment 1 (Rice husk with soil) obtained an average

of 5, treatment 2 (Coconut peat) had an average of 2 and treatment 3

(Rice husk and Coconut peat) gained an average of 7. In the other hand, in

terms of height of stem, treatment 1 (Rice husk with soil) obtained an

average of 3, treatment 2 (Coconut peat) had an average of 2.5 and

treatment 3 (Rice husk and Coconut peat) gained an average of 4.

In terms of number of leaves, the findings showed that treatment 3

(Rice husk and Coconut peat) obtained the highest number of leaves.

Followed by treatment 1 (Rice husk with soil) and treatment 2 (Coconut

peat). And treatment 2 (Coconut peat) had the lowest average out of all

the treatments. In terms of height of stem, the findings showed that the

treatment 3 (Rice husk and Coconut peat) got the longest height of stem.

Followed by treatment 1 (Rice husk with soil), and lastly the treatment 2

(Coconut peat) has the shortest height of stem.

Conclusion #2

The mean growth of the Tomato (Solanum Lycopersicum) grown in T1,

T2, T3 in terms of number of leaves and height of stem was find out of the

researchers.

Conclusion #3

The computed value 1.41547827537 is less than the tabular 5.14,

intimate that there is no significant difference in the growth germination of

Tomato (Solanum Lycopersicum) seeds in the number of leaves. There

is no significant difference in the length of leaves because the F-value

computed 0.24358974358 is less than F-tabular value which is 5.14. The F-

value computed of height of stem 0.056 is less than the tabular 5.14.

RECOMMENDATIONS

The researchers recommend the following to the future researchers

who wants to pursue a similar study to this.

-The researchers would like to recommend to future researchers of the

same investigatory project to follow the ingredients and procedures

accordingly to achieve a successful project like this one.

- It is also recommended to soak the plants regularly, to ensure the

growth.

- Observe the plants regularly.

-It is also recommended to consult appropriate professionals in conducting

a study for a better result.

APPENDIX E
The researchers conducted this study to determine the acceptability of Rice

(Oryza Sativa) husk and Coconut (Cocos Nucifera) peat as a Soil

Substitute to the Growth and Germination of Tomato ( Solanum

Lycopersicum) seeds. Specifically, it seeks to answer the following

questions, (1) What is the germination rate of the Tomato (Solanum

Lycopersicum) seed by utilizing the Soil Substitute in terms of a. number of

leaves, b. length of stem?

The researchers used Completely Randomized Design in the study

where 3 treatments and 3 replicates each. The researchers also used

statistical tools to interpret the data gathered after the experimentation to

determine the result, the researchers calculated the average height of

stem, number of leaves of the Tomato (Solanum Lycopersicum).

The research study tested the alternative hypothesis that there is

significant difference in the level of Acceptability of Rice (Oryza Sativa)

husk and Coconut (Cocos Nucifera) peat as a Soil Substitute to the

Growth and Germination of Tomato (Solanum Lycopersicum) seeds.

The result states that the average number of leaves of T 1 was 5, T2

obtained an average of 2 and T 3 had an average of 7. On the other hand,

the result shows that the average height of stem of T 1 was 3, T2 had an

average of 2.5, and T3 obtained an average of 4. Mean was used to

determine the average number of leaves and height of stem.
