The Brief:

As a soon-to-be interior design consultant, or business owner, you need to know the processes of an ID
project from inception to completion. As completion of a project requires an actual site, cost, time and
actual construction work, your mission for this assignment is to undertake your assignment from
Inception up until stage 4: Contract Documentation.

You are also required to think and play the role of how you want your “company” or you, as an interior
design consultant, be portrayed to your client. This is part of branding yourself and learning to position
yourself in a team/ in the industry.

You are about to embark onto a scaled down version of presentation documents and supporting
documents required to carry out a project from start to ‘end’. This exercise involves many skill sets from
communication, drawing ability, rendering capability to sourcing finishes, presentation, managing
contractors and clients and finally budgeting.

METHOD OF EXECUTION:

This is a GROUP project. Your group should have 5 persons. Each group member should have equal
responsibility and scope of work.

Each group is to select ONE design project of the options above. (Latest Project)

Each group would then proceed to contact any previous firms/ new consultants and conduct interviews
with all necessary key personnel to enable collation of information

* Every member has to participate. You will be graded as an individual and as a team.
* Please note that any additional information relevant will of course be a bonus and will therefore gain
you more rewards.
* Every group is responsible to compile and upload progress report to the University E-portal after /
before tutorial.

Stage One:

(I) Corporate Identity

At this stage, students are requested to discuss with teammates about setting up a company. Several
issues needed to be identified and solved throughout the process.

1. What is your company name and logo design? Please elaborate details of corporate identity.
2. What is the direction of your company, both short and long term?
3. What are the positions available and how will you divide the authority power among the team?

(II) Inception Stage

At this stage, students are requested to prepare some related forms and documents of your company.

1. Prepare a design contract as a proof of commission by the client.

2. Prepare a form to get detailed information from customer. These can then be further developed as
design input.
3. Please record a summary of discussion carried out in this stage between the potential client and
yourselves (Meeting Minute)
4. Please show proof of procurement (A4 document usually in Letter format).

Stage Two:

(I) Schematic & Design Development

1. Demonstrate your design ideas, concept and initial layout – (A4)
2. Include schedules, drawings and other supporting material – (A4) (material board, schedule of
finishes/ furniture or a snapshot of material board inserted into document)

(II) Contract Documentation

1. Produce a Bill of Quantity (BQ)
2. Estimated Work Programme
3. For construction drawings, please produce General Arrangements Drawings (GA) with a proper title
block indicating scale, drawing number, revision, date, etc

Stage Three:
At this stage, students need to final compile and arrange contents according to the sequence of the
project management.

Stage Four: Presentation & Final Submission
As a professional Interior Designer, punctuality is very important. Students need to submit hard and soft
copy of the Presentation and Report on Thursday 22th June 2023, (9AM – 3PM). Late submissions will not
be allowed any presentation and marks will be deducted.

Submission Date : 05th March 2024, 9AM TO 3PM

Submission Requirements:

A. Seminar Presentation
- Power Point (Soft copy) – pdf or ppt format
B. Report of Presentation
- A4 Printed & bound
* Please have a cover page with design and names of each team member clearly spelt out.

* A digital copy must also be submitted to the University E-portal. Failure to do so will be considered as
an incomplete submission.
