5.1 NPSH and Suction Pressure
Net Positive Suction Head of the system are calculated by summation of operating and
elevation head minus friction, component loss, and vapor head :

𝑁𝑃𝑆𝐻= ℎ_𝑠+ ℎ_𝐿− ℎ_𝑓− ℎ_𝑐− ℎ_𝑣

Supply pressure head hs = 9.5 m

Elevation head hL = 0.5 m

Pipe friction head hf 0.6 m

Component loss head hc = 0.3 m
Vapor pressure head hv = 1.2 m

Net positive suction head NPSH = 7.84 m

Suction pressure P1 = 0.83 bar

5.2 Discharge Head and Discharge Pressure

Likewise the suction head, discharge head are calculated by summation of pipe friction
head, component head, and required pressure at destination :

Required pressure at destination P_d = 3 bar

Destination head h_d = 28.4 m

𝐷𝑖𝑠𝑐ℎ𝑎𝑟𝑔𝑒 ℎ𝑒𝑎𝑑= ℎ_𝐿+ ℎ_𝑓+ ℎ_𝑐+ ℎ_𝑑

Elevation head hL = 8.0 m

Pipe friction head hf 8.6 m
Component loss head hc = 1.8 m
Destination head hd = 28.4 m

Discharge head h2 = 46.83 m

Discharge pressure P2 = 5.0 bar

5.3 Estimated Pump Power

Theoretically, pump power can be estimated by following equation. Actual pump power
shall be provided by pump manufacturer.

𝑊= (𝐹𝑃_2)/𝜂

Pump efficiency η = 0.75

Pump power W = 4.0 kW

5.4 Differential Pressure

Differential pressure defined as pressure difference between suction and discharge
pressure. Calculated as follows :

𝐷𝑖𝑓𝑓𝑒𝑟𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑖𝑎𝑙 𝑝𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑠𝑢𝑟𝑒= 𝑃_𝑑𝑖𝑠𝑐ℎ𝑎𝑟𝑔𝑒 − 𝑃_𝑠𝑢𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛

Differential pressure ΔP = 4.1 bar
