I. INTRODUCTON
According to Class NK, Oily bilge system is in fact similar to the bilge system. But in
serving the engine room and pump room only. But before the first treatment should be
discarded. This system aims to drain a small puddle in the room with a small capacity
engine pumped overboard through overboard after the treatment so as not to pollute
the sea (discarded if the oil content <5 ppm). In this document will be discussed in detail
about the oily bilge system. In order to know in detail about the oily bilge system, the
following is an explanation.

II. OBJECTIVES
The things that we must understand about Bilge System are :
1. Understand the oily water bilge system inside the ship.
2. Calculate the diameter of the main and the branch oily water bilge system.
3. Determining the capacity and head of oily water bilge pump according Class NK
Rule for Marine Pollution Prevention Systems/Guidence Chapter 2 Equipment for
the Prevention of Polution by Oil from Machinery Spaces 2017.
4. Choosing the pipe and pump which match to the calculation above.
5. Drawing the design of oily water bilge system.

V. SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
In this document, we will design a bilge system in the engine room. In the engine room,
we will find an leakage of oil that became from any machinery and pipe. Therefore, the
oily bilge system is designed automatically operate as the primary bilge system in the
engine room spaces. We need to consider about the mixed of oil and water in the engine
room. We can not sent the water out if that has an oil, according to Marine Pollution
statutory. And then we need a Oily Water Separator (OWS). Where, its function is to
separate the water from oil content up to 5 ppm. In OWS it has an oily content monitor
to control the content of oil in the water. If the content of oil in the water less than 5
ppm, we can sent the water out thorugh the overboard, if more than 5 ppm, the OWS
system will sent the mixed to the sludge tank to have a circulating again, and the oil that
sent to the sludge tank will be sent to the shore.

e. Calculation of Oily Bilge Pump

Calculation of Oily Bilge Pump Capacity

Oily water bilge system is a system to handle flooding or leakage in the engine
room area. Especially with the mixing fluid between water and oil. Planned
bilge pump equal to capacity of oily bilge pump is given from waste collecting
tank volume dan time to pumping in this project is planned time to pumping
30 minutes

T= 30 minutes
0.5 hours

then, oily bilge pump capacity :

Q = V/T
= Volume sludge tank/ t
3
= 3.92 m /h
= 0.0011 m³/s

Assumption velocity of fluida = 1.5 m/s

Calculation of pipe diameter Q= vxA

= 0.00073 m
CALCULATION AND : 03 - 42 20 DN002-

So, minimal internal diameter :

d = (4 x A / π)
0.5
= (4 x 0.0022/ 3.14)
= 0.03041 m
= 30.4 mm = 1.20 inch
