SWASA KOSA MUDRA

Breathing fulfills the oxygen requirement of the body, which

unconditionally flows into the lungs during inhalation. Any obstruction in
oxygen flow causes mood swings, irritation, mental weakness, insomnia,
inferiority complex and hormonal imbalances.
An asthmatic attack is triggered by a cold and rainy season or an allergy
to an environmental pollutant. Because of the severe bronco-constriction,
there is accumulation of fluids in the alveolar spaces which prevent the
entry of oxygen into the body. Therefore, there is wheezing, difficulty in
breathing, dry cough, shortness of breath and rapid breathing. These
symptoms can never be permanently relieved by medicines.

‘Swasa kosa Mudra’ gives a permanent cure for asthma by reducing the
water element, equalizing fire and space elements and thus increasing the
amount of air entering the body.

PROCEDURE:
Three points in the thumb are brought into position, the tip, middle part
and the base. The tip of the little finger touches the base of the thumb,
tip of the ring finger touches the middle part and the tip of the index
finger touches the tip of the thumb. The index finger should be stretched
upwards, at an angle of 90º. This Mudra should be done with the palm
facing upwards.

The best positions for this Mudra are to sit with folded legs on the floor,
or on a chair with feet fully touching the floor. In emergencies, lying
position is allowed.

Do for 5-40 minutes per day, for 5 to 6 times. The time can be extended in
conditions of severe wheezing and coughing or till wheezing stops.

BENEFITS:
 Controls cough in all age groups, from children to aged people.

 This Mudra is life saving in emergencies like uncontrolled wheezing

and cough, resulting in unconsciousness.

 The heat generated by this Mudra can overcome the side effects of
staying in an air-conditioned room such as allergy and shivering in
cold.

 Prevents mucus accumulation in the lungs during winter.

 Reduces the severity of wheezing and shortness of breath and

relaxes the bronchioles

 Deepens breathing in those under emotional stress in few weeks

and minimizes the stress.

 Comforts breathing in asthmatics within 3 months and reduces the

use of inhaler.

 This Mudra is mandatory for children in initial stages of wheezing.

 If done before using an inhaler, it is possible to prevent asthmatic

attack.
 Swasa kosa Mudra can be a first aid for asthma - in the absence of
an inhaler, medicines or a physician.
 Cures common cold and allergic rhinitis.
