Completing this exercise provided valuable insights into both my hard and soft skills as a

nursing unit clerk. In the realm of soft skills, I found that my interpersonal abilities play a crucial

role in my profession. Active listening, a key component of effective communication, is evident

in my practice as I maintain eye contact, speak clearly, and ask follow-up questions during

interactions. Punctuality and dependability are highlighted through my commitment to showing

up on time or early for shifts, showcasing my reliability to the team.

Moreover, my role demands a high degree of adaptability and emotional intelligence. In

healthcare, situations can evolve rapidly, requiring quick adjustments and a keen understanding

of the emotional needs of patients and colleagues. This aligns with the 2020 in-demand soft skills

such as adaptability and emotional intelligence identified by LinkedIn.

On the hard skills side, my proficiency in specific technical areas is crucial. Managing

medical records, using healthcare software, and coordinating unit activities require a sound

understanding of technology, emphasizing my proficiency in certain hard skills. Additionally,

my ability to effectively answer technical questions related to the healthcare environment and

work through skills tests demonstrates my competency in hard skills pertinent to nursing unit

clerk roles.

Reflecting on this exercise, I discovered the intricate balance between my technical

proficiency and interpersonal finesse. Recognizing the importance of both hard and soft skills in

my profession enhances my ability to articulate my strengths in a resume or interview. This

exercise has not only deepened my self-awareness but also equipped me with a clearer
understanding of how to present my skill set effectively in the context of my nursing unit clerk

role.
