Security System
After spending 30 years in IT and Security Industry out of which 16 years were in Integrated security
systems. Integrated security systems are still new for India. Large Corporates, PSUs and Infrastructure
projects have just started adopting these systems recently. Still I see most of products available in India
comes from Chinese companies or are rebranded from China. Surprisingly many large suppliers are selling
rebranded products or dumping outdated western technology just to stay in game of giving cheapest
solutions.
With my experience I have tried to put together some important points which should be considered by
every user, consultant or system integrator to design a security solution using latest technology which is
upgradable as per users requirement and long lasting for at least 10-15 years. Not to forget that no product
made somewhere in world directly applies to Indian environment so customisation to Indian user needs is
very important, we cannot just copy any technology mindlessly.

DOES YOUR SECURITY SYSTEM TAKES
CARE OF FOLLOING ISSUES?
1. Does your integrated system send and receive alarms between different systems? (Two way
communications). E.g on alarm from analytics from CCTV or panic switch by a guard alarm putting on
hooter, PA-system, Security lighting, change in access control system hi alert or alarm from any hardware
gives CCTV pop up with MAP showing location of alarm, action message to security control room and
action taken for the alarm etc.
2. Does your system work in fail safe mode- in case IP or server fails will the system still work in field with
100% design mode not degraded or stand alone mode?
3. Does guard giving duty at gate know the exact point of alarm when hooter is activated, for doing manual
check? In case alarm is raised from CCTV, Guard tour point, any intrusion sensor, manual alarm raised?
4. Can guard acknowledge alarm and put off the hooter on site. Morning software logs are also available?
5. Can guard generate a manual alarm in case situation is out of his control.
6. Will the alarm be escalated to higher level if not acknowledged in a particular time frame?
7. Do you have automatic alarm reports with CCTV clip of post and pre alarm time as required?
8. Does your guard tour system raise alarm if guard is getting late or reaching early on his tour points or guard
has not started his tour?
9. Do you have online report of all main guarding points weather point is manned or not? Alarm raised if
guard not present?
10.Is your system cyber secured? Encryption? Prone to hacking. Networked system have their own
challenges. Future is cyber wars not physical. If somebody hacks your system then he becomes master
and no alarm will be raised.
11.Is your system ready to be integrated with other third party software and hardware? ready tools not
software development activity for any integration.
12.Does your system hardware on field integration ASCII, MODBUS etc. integration? so that there is no
dependability on network and computers for critical alarms.
13.In case of distress can your guard put all systems on gate in lock out position or all free position with just
one command? Bollards , Turnstiles, Boom barrier, access control readers etc. In case of network or
server failure will your hooter gets activated? All your controllers are on network and alarm is coming
from controller- 1 and hooter is connected to controller 7 or 8th.
14.Your hardware IP rated 65-67 for outside operations, designed to work in non A/C environment for
industrial application?
15.Do your system have emergency video calling facility to security control room or vice versa just by
pressing one button?
16.Does your system monitor every hardware and cabling in field and raise alarm in case of any fault or
tempering?
17.Does your system have alerts on SMS, Email etc. freely programmable?
