    The value of a determinant does not change if its rows and columns are replaced. A determinant's value is zero if any of its rows or columns are the same. The elements of any row or column of a determinant can be multiplied by a factor, and the determinant's value is also multiplied by that factor. If the elements of any row or column of a determinant are the sum or difference of two or more terms, the determinant can be written as the sum or difference of two or more determinants.
