III. PROCEDURES
A. REVIEWING In the previous lesson, we have discussed about the Gravity.
Without looking at your book, who can give me the definition of
Friction?
( Friction is a force that is produced when two uneven surfaces
moved against each other)
Now who can Enumerate the types of Friction?
B. Establishing a (Static Friction, Sliding Friction, Rolling Friction, Fluid
purpose for the Friction)
lesson (ENGAGE) Now we will proceed to our next Lesson.
What comes into your mind when you see these pictures?
What comes in your mind when you hear the word ENERGY?
You may think that FOOD because food gives you energy. While
the food you eat contains a form of energy that enables you to do
your daily activities, there are forms of energy aside from that
which is found on your food.
C. Presenting
examples/instance
s of the new
lesson
(MOTIVATION)

Look at the picture above. Do you think the children in the

picture will be able to play if they do not have energy? What
will happen if you do not have energy? Do you think you can go
to school and do different activities? Do you think Earth will
continue to exist without the energy it gets from the sun?

As you might have guessed, energy is important in everything

that happens round you. Energy is the ability to make things
happen, whether it involves heating. moving, or changing
objects in certain ways. Energy comes from the Greek word
energeia, which means "in work." Therefore, energy is the
capacity to do work.

Energy comes in many forms. Look around your home, and you
will find different rms of energy at work. Electricity runs most
of your appliances. Sound emanates om your radio and speakers.
Light is given off by your lamps and bulbs. Heat from your
stove cooks your food. All of these are forms of energy.

Do the activity on the next page to have a good understanding of

the different forms of energy.
4 pics one word
Answer: Mechanical Energy - Every day, you do different
activities like walking, playing, or pushing. These activities
involve mechanical energy. Mechanical energy is a form of
energy that is directly associated with motion or with force.
Mechanical. This form of energy includes both potential energy
and kinetic energy.
Potential energy is the energy stored in an object as a result of
its position. Take for example the plastic cup on the right. It has
stored energy that is based on its distance from the ground.
Another example is a pulled spring. When the spring is not
stretched, there is no mechanical energy stored. But once it is
pulled, the energy that results from the stretching of the spring is
stored as potential energy. On the other hand, an object in
motion has energy in the form of kinetic energy. Kinetic energy
is energy that an object possesses because of its motion. All
moving objects, from very small particles to huge aircraft,
possess kinetic energy. An object that is moving at higher speed
and has greater mass possesses more kinetic energy than one
who is slower and has less mass. If the car and the truck in the
illustration below travel at the same speed, which do you think
will have greater kinetic energy?

Answer: Chemical Energy - What do you do when you need

energy? You eat, right? The energy you get from food is known
as chemical energy Chemical energy is the energy that is stored
in the bonds between the atoms of chemical compounds. When
these bonds are broken during chemical reactions, energy is
released. In the same way, when the food you eat is digested and
undergoes certain chemical reactions in the body, energy is
released, enabling you to do your activities
Answer: Radiant Energy - Energy that comes from
electromagnetic (EM) waves is called radiant energy.
Microwaves, X-rays, and radio waves are all EM waves. Visible
light is also a form of radiant energy. The following chart shows
the EM spectrum, which includes all types of EM waves.

Answer: Electrical Energy - Many of the equipment in your

home are powered by electricity. Television sets, computers,
light bulbs, and fans all need electricity or electrical energy to
work. Electrical energy is the energy produced by the flow of
electrons through conductors such as a copper wire.

Answers:
Place your index and middle fingers on the front of your neck
and then say something. What do you notice? Do you feel any
vibration? Whenever you talk, you produce sound energy. Sound
energy is the form of energy created by vibrations as they travel
through air or other medium. One of the most important uses of
sound energy is communication. Sound energy allows you to
communicate with other people personally or through the use of
phones and computers. Aside from communication, sound is
also widely used in technology. Ultrasound or high- frequency
sound is used in welding plastic and metals, testing machine
parts, and cleaning jewelry and optical parts. It is also widely
used to determine the depth of water and map the shape of ocean
floors. This use of sound to form images is known as sound
navigation and ranging (SONAR). Ultrasound is also used to
map the internal parts of the body and monitor the progress of
pregnancies.
D. Discussing new Thermal/ Heat Energy
concepts and All atoms possesses kinetic energy because they are in constant
practicing new motion. This kinetic energy transforms into another form of
skills #1 energy known as thermal or heat energy. Thermal energy is the
energy caused by the movement of molecules in an object.
The major source of thermal energy, the sun, warms the Earth
and the atmosphere. Thermal Energy is used to cooked food,
boil water and grill meat. It is also used to control
microorganism that may contaminate food. Some natural
sources of heat, such as geysers and volcanoes, power many
areas in the Philippines.

concepts and

skills #2
E. GENERALIZATION  Energy is the ability to make things happen, whether it
involves heating, moving, or changing objects in certain
ways.
 Potential Energy is the energy stored in an object as
results of its position.
 Kinetic energy is energy that an object possesses
because of its motion.
 Mechanical Energy is a form of energy that is directly
related to motion. It can be either potential energy or
kinetic energy.
 Chemical Energy is the energy stored in the bonds
between atoms. It is used in life processes, electronic
devices, and energy production.
 Radiant Energy is the energy from electromagnetic
waves. This type of energy is used in photosynthesis,
food preservation, and medical procedures.
 Electrical Energy is the energy produced by the flow of
electrons though a conductor. Electricity is used to
power most devices, equipment, and vehicles.
 Thermal energy is caused by the movement of the
molecules in an object. It is used to warm homes, cook
food and produce electricity.
