1. Review Learning Task No. 1:
Let us see if you remembered the previous lesson about effects of gravity pp.28
on objects and people. Read the statements below. Write TRUE or
FALSE.
______________1. Gravity pulls everything to the edge of the earth.
_____________2. Gravity and friction are important in making objects
stop. ______________3. Gravity is responsible for pulling.
______________4. If there is no gravity, we will all float in the air.
______________5. Gravity is greater in the moon.
3. Motivation
Directions: Give five (5) examples of materials or objects that produce
sounds. Your examples should begin with each letter of the word “sound.”
B. Lesson Proper
SOUND ENERGY
Sound Energy is produced in different ways. The simple way is when
objects hit each other. Clap your hands. Drop a book on the table. Marbles
and billiard balls produce clicks as they collide. Musical instruments
called percussions also produce sound this way. Sound produced this way
comes from the lost kinetic energy when moving bodies collide. Another
way to make sounds is by making vibrations. When you speak, sing or
hum, your vocal cord vibrates. Wind instruments make their sound by
sustaining the vibration of columns of air in the tubes. Stringed
instruments make sound when their strings vibrate. In speakers, a part
called the diaphragm vibrates to produce sound.
Analysis
Questions:
1. What is sound energy?
2. What are the uses of sound energy?
Abstraction
1. Describe sound energy and its uses?
C. Application:
Motivation
Tell what do the objects in the pictures give us and how do we use it?
B. Lesson Proper
Activity
Activity 2:
Group the class in 4. Let the pupils perform activities assigned to
their group (written in activity card)
Group 1
What you need:
Alcohol lamp
Test tube
Tongs
(Match or lighter- provided by the teacher)
What to do:
- Put small amount of water in the test tube
- Light up an alcohol lamp
- Hold the test tube by using tongs and put it on lighted alcohol lamp
for 3 minutes.
- Answer the following questions;
- 1. What was produced by alcohol lamp?
- 2. After 3 minutes, what happen to water inside test tube? Why?
- 3. Where do we use hot water?
- 4. Is heat important to our daily life? How?
Group II
What you need:
1 blouse or polo
Flat iron
Ironing board/table
What to do:
Plug in the flat iron
Turn it on and select the proper temperature for the
blouse/polo
After 1 minute, press the blouse with flat iron from collar up to the whole
part.
Compare the appearance of blouse before and after
you press it.
What is being applied to blouse?
What energy was applied to your blouse?
Is heat important? How?
Group III
What you need (advance planting before the lesson)
Two cans of mongo plants one labelled A which grew under the heat of
the sun, and the other labelled B grew inside the room particularly in the
dark area or without presence of heat
What to do:
Examine the color of leaves in plant A and B
Do they have the same color? Tell something about their height or size.
Which among the two cans
grew faster? Why do you think is the reason? Which among the two cans
will bear more mongo? Why?
Can you tell what kind of energy was needed by plants in order to grow?
Group IV
What you need:
1 pillow
What to do:
Bring your pillow and go outside the room. Place the pillow under the heat
of the sun for 10 to 15 minutes (pre-assigned/may do this before the actual
time) Touch the top of pillow. How do you feel? Why? Suppose there’s an
insect on top of the pillow, will it stay there for 10 to 15 minutes? why?
Do you think heat of the sun change foul odor of our beddings? What
word best describe about what heat of sun can do to our beddings?
Analysis
Abstraction
Is heat important in our daily life? How will you describe the uses of heat
energy?
Application
Directions: List down five examples of heat or thermal energy using the
graphic organizer. Write your answers on a separate sheet.
Assessment
Directions: Fill in the blanks with the correct word to complete the
paragraph. Choose the answers from the box. Write the answer on a
separate sheet of paper. (1) __________ (also called heat energy) is
produced when a rise in temperature causes atoms and molecules to move
faster and collide with each other. Thermal energy is the energy that
comes from the heated-up substance. The hotter the substance, the more its
(2) __________ move, and the higher its thermal energy. (3) __________
transfers heat through one object to another when in direct contact. (4)
__________ transfers heat energy via air and liquids. (5) __________
warms the air using heat waves that radiate out of the hot object in all
directions until absorbed by other objects.
Assignment
Make a journal about the uses of heat energy in our daily life and how to
handle those materials that produces heat
Analysis
1. Reporting of group outputs.
2. Analysis and discussions of pupil’s answer.
3. The teacher asks questions to develop critical thinking.
Abstraction
Light is a form of energy that helps us to see all the things around us.
Light can come from different sources. Let us look at some of these

1.Bulb 1.Bulb uses electricity to give
us light at night.
Questions
1. What are the materials that used electrical energy?
2. Describe the uses of electrical energy.
3. Is electrical energy important? Why?
Abstraction
Electricity is an energy when electrons move from one atom to another.
Atoms are basic building blocks of matter that make up everything.
Electrons are small particles that spin around the center of the atom
holding a negative (-) charge while protons are particles in the center of an
atom that hold a positive (+) charge.
Matter contains the smallest particle called atom. Each atom has protons
which have positive charge, electrons which have negative charge and
neutrons which have neutral charge. The movements of electrons produce
electrical energy. Electricity carries electrical energy. This form of energy
is used in communication, transportation, production, and industry.
Application
A. Complete the chart by writing the needed information inside the box.
Copy and answer the graphic organizer on your answer sheet.
