Elicit Ask the students who knows the game tag of war. Ask the
students the following?

Engage Materials:
• Chair or any movable object.

Make students hold a chair any object big enough they can move. Ask them to
gently push the object.
Then try ask them to pull the object.

Ask the following questions


1. What did you observe on the object as you try to push or pull it?

Explore The teacher will show a video presentation to the class. The video shows an
explanation of force and different activities which shows force.

At the end of the video, the teacher will ask the students to answer the following:
• As what you’ve understand on the video, what is force?
• What are the other activities you do that shows force?
• How do you think force affects our daily lives?

Explain
The students will present their outputs. Teacher will explain the gap on the
understanding of the topic that allows students to clearly understand the topic force.

The world and the Universe are full of action. People and animals are constantly
moving. The planets are constantly revolving around the Sun. Is there a set of rules
for all of this? Yes! Nature's laws govern our world and the entire Universe. Physicists
are scientists who study and try to understand these laws.

Everyday, we can observe movements around us. When we eat we lift our utensils.
This is a form of movement. When we open faucet in our home, water drops from it, it
is also a form of movement. Of course, things just don’t move by themselves. An
object must be push or pull in order to move.

Force normally refers to the measurement of a push or a pull. Force happens when
there is interaction on the bodies of object. The SI unit for force is newton (N).

Forces can be described in different types. Currently, there are four recognized
fundamental types of forces.
1. Strong nuclear force. The strong nuclear force are interactions between two or
more nucleons. These nucleons holds protons and neutrons together in the
nucleus of an atom. This force is very strong and destructive. This force was
observed during the World War II where atomic bombs are used that destroy
cities such as Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan.

2. Electromagnetic force. The electromagnetic force is a type of physical


interaction that occurs between electrically charged particles. It acts between
charged particles and is the combination of all magnetic and electrical forces.
Electromagnetic force binds electrons to the atomic nucleus, atoms into
molecules, ions in solid matter, and molecules in liquids and solids. The force
of attraction between different kinds of molecules is called adhesion, while on
the other hand, the attraction between the same kinds of molecules is called
cohesion. For example, the force that attracts all the water molecules together to
form a water drop is called cohesion. Adhesion is the force that keeps the water
drop on the surface of leaves or wall.

Electricity and magnetism are closely related. The behavior of magnetic


materials is explained by moving charges. Together, they form an magnetic
field. The speakers on your phone, computer or television uses magnets that
creates opposing magnetic fields which creates vibrations to help produce
sound.

3. Weak nuclear force. Weak nuclear force is responsible for certain types of
radioactive decay or the force that causes changes inside the nucleus of an atom.
It is said to be stronger than gravitational force but weaker to either
electromagnetic force and strong nuclear force. Although it was recognized by
scientists, still only little information are known up today.
4. Gravitational force. The gravitational force is a force that attracts any two
objects with mass. This force causes objects to fall towards the earth. An
example of this is the force that allowing us to walk and not to float.

Forces cannot be seen, but the effects of these forces on the object it acts on may be
observed. Some of the effect of force on object are the following:
• Cause a stationary object to move
• Changes the direction of the motion
• Speed up or slow down a moving object
• Stop a moving object
• Change in size
• Change in shape
