Emerging Technologies in Complexity of Information Systems in Digital World

Organizational complexity is a growing issue as digitalization takes place. It can impede decision
making, reduce performance, and create inefficiency. Complexity can also lead to high hidden
costs. Digital technology helps to mitigate complexity, but there are downsides. In fact, it can
even reduce the intended effect of a solution.
For example, autonomous-driving systems could run a person over. And unstructured textual
data can lead to errors and clarity. But these are not the only impacts of emerging technologies.
They can also instigate new digital interactions and intensify complexity. Graph technologies, for
example, can identify communities and influencers in social media networks (Benbya et al.,
2020). These technologies will become integrated components of existing data platforms.
Although they will take at least three to six years to reach majority adoption, they will help
enhance social media analysis.
"Metaverse" is a concept that will change how people interact in the digital world. Unlike virtual
reality, it is a persistent digital environment. Metaverse experiences will enable digital content
that is collaborative, interoperable, decentralized, and persistent. As a result, they will displace
many current digital interactions.
A growing number of enterprises and individuals are turning to digital technologies as a means
to address the challenges posed by complex sociotechnical systems. These solutions, which
include Artificial Intelligence (AI), represent a convergence of different technologies. Together,
these technologies can help automate trust in physical assets and digital information.
Increasingly, digital capabilities can encode abstract cognitive processes and automate the
decisions and actions of social actors. This is a significant factor in the evolution of Artificial
Intelligence in business.
The Impact of Various Technologies Emerging on the Complexity of Information Systems
In recent years, various technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), have become prevalent
in organizations across a range of industries. These systems are becoming increasingly integrated
into businesses, and AI is also making its presence felt in healthcare, where it has the potential to
transform administrative processes within organizations.
Increasingly complex information systems are being used to process, store, and analyze a variety
of data. As a result, they are becoming harder to maintain and change. The impact of complexity
can lead to inaccurate and incorrect business decisions. There are several ways to measure
complexity in an organization. Some methods include automated process mining, database
scanning, and code review (Berdik et al., 2021). Other techniques may be more simplistic, such
as tracking programming languages or counting open-source libraries. While these measures can
provide valuable insight into the state of the technology in an organization, they may not be
enough to address the full complexity of the system.
Various studies have been conducted to investigate the relationship between complexity and
resilience. These studies suggest that the higher the complexity of a technology, the more
difficult it is to make it resilient. Complexity also increases the likelihood of errors caused by
human-machine interaction. This problem is especially evident in organizations where AI agents
interact with each other, such as healthcare and transportation. Moreover, the interaction between
these systems introduces additional complexity factors, such as reinforcement dynamics.
In addition, many studies have examined the role of network topology and complexity in
learning performance. For example, some researchers have explored how topology affects the
probability of a recommendation being accepted, while other research has shown that the denser
a network is, the faster it learns.
Information Systems are increasingly being designed with multiple stakeholders and multiple
classes of functional components. In particular, bots are being used to interact in different areas,
such as Wikipedia editing and e-Government. And, more recently, multiagent learning has
become a popular approach.
Another important aspect of an information system's technical architecture is the presence of
human systems as users. In this context, it is possible to segment the architecture into application
segments. By doing so, the complexity of the overall architecture can be reduced, and it becomes
easier for teams to innovate within these segments. A more comprehensive solution in the future
may be to use a composite solution, wherein the entire enterprise is segmented into smaller, more
manageable units. Understanding the drivers behind a system's complexity can help make
systemic property judgments during the design phase. Using a metrics framework for a fact-
based discussion of the impact of a business decision on the enterprise architecture can also help.
To evaluate the impact of a business decision on the organization's overall architecture, it is
important to identify the specific risks and opportunities that it presents. This can be achieved by
establishing a risk appetite for the technology, and then formalizing that risk appetite in the form
of an agreement between business and technology leadership.
How Emerging Technologies Are Impacting Organizations
The emerging technologies of today have the power to change the way business is conducted.
They can drive a company's transformation and help it engage with its digital clientele. However,
the impact of emerging technologies can be both positive and negative. In order to maximize the
benefits, organizations must understand the risks and leverage the advantages.
The Internet of Things (IoT) is one example of an emerging technology. It consists of sensors
and other components that collect data for decision making. These components are built to
enable new context-rich connected environments. Another example of an emerging technology is
artificial intelligence (Morkunas, Paschen & Boon, 2019). This technology is being used to
provide preventative healthcare to societies. AI also assists in the development of new drugs and
vaccines.
Another example is self-driving cars. While still in their early stages, these vehicles have already
revolutionized mineral exploration. Other applications are in the realm of unmanned delivery.
Aside from the technology itself, the speed of delivery cannot be overlooked. Adaptation of
technologies improves the efficiency of production methods and minimizes the costs of
businesses.
In addition, emerging technologies are reshaping the social and economic environment. For
example, advances in computing can make it possible to develop a vaccine that would otherwise
have been too expensive. Some of these technologies can even improve the speed of resiliency.
Many companies are now using these technologies to open numerous branches. This is because
technology can allow businesses to communicate with other companies without having to leave
their offices.
What Organizations Can Do to Reduce the Burden of Digitalization
One of the most important things that organizations can do to reduce the burden of digitalization
is to engage with stakeholders. Whether it's a new employee, an existing employee, or a member
of the public, collaborating with people who have a variety of perspectives can help develop new
processes and products.
It's also important to understand the benefits of digital transformation. Among other things,
digitization can reduce administrative costs, increase efficiency, and make government services
more accessible. In addition, it can help healthcare organizations. The key is to find a balance
between empowering teams and maintaining a strong operational backbone. An operational
backbone consists of an infrastructure that provides standardized automated business processes.
Typically, this includes enterprise resource planning and customer resource management
systems. If an organization has a strong operational backbone, it's easier to make changes to the
front and back ends.
The first step is to create a new framework of accountability. This is organized around functions,
product lines, and geographies. These structures help streamline the process and prevent
duplication of activities. Next, it's important to make the user experience easy to navigate. Users
want change as the world changes (Madsen, Lindgren & Melin, 2022). For instance, they may
need digital IDs and multiple accounts. They also may need to fill out forms, and they may
upload documents as scans. Providing less data and simpler forms will boost user satisfaction.
Next, it's important to establish a strong customer relationship. Consumers are looking for more
innovative and personalized solutions. They want to interact with governments in an easy and
fast way. Getting customers engaged with a government program or brand can improve trust and
improve business outcomes.
