34 understand how the process of respiration produces ATP in living organisms

During Cellular Aerobic Respiration, Glucose is broken down in the presence of oxygen
to produce Carbon Dioxide and Water.
Energy is released during this reaction and is captured by the Energy - Carrying
Molecule ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate)

2.35 know that ATP provides energy for cells

Energy is released from ATP when the end Phosphate is removed and becomes ADP
(Adenosine Diphosphate), which is a low energy molecule. This provides energy for
cells. ADP can be recharged.
2.36 describe the differences between aerobic and anaerobic respiration
Aerobic respiration = In this form of respiration all of the energy is released from the
glucose as it is fully broken down. It is used for day to day life processes- like movement
and reproduction- and keeping warm.

Anaerobic respiration = Anaerobic respiration takes place when the heart and lungs
cannot work fast enough to provide to oxygen needed for aerobic respiration: for
example when exercising The energy released is less in anaerobic respiration because
the glucose cannot be fully broken down.

2.37 know the word equation and the balanced chemical symbol equation for aerobic
respiration in living organisms
word equation:
oxygen + glucose ---> carbon dioxide + water

balanced symbol equation:

6O(2) + C(6)H(12)O(6) -----> 6CO(2) + 6H(2)O

2.38 know the word equation for anaerobic respiration in plants and in animals
glucose ---> lactic acid
