Detailed Lesson Plan in Math 3

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson the pupils should be able to:
a .Identify symmetry and line of symmetry in a given shape and real world
Examples.
b. Demonstrate cooperation in doing the group work activity.
c. Complete the missing half of a symmetrical object by applying their
understanding of symmetry.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: "Symmetry"
References: Mathematics textbook 3 pp. 264-267

Materials: Pictures, cut-outs, flashcards, visual aids
Values Infused: Cooperation and Appreciation

III. Procedure
A. Preliminary Activities
T e a c h e r ' s A c t i v i t y L e a r n e r ' s A c t i v i t y
A. Prayer
To start our day, let us all stand for
our prayer. In the name of the father, the
son, and of the holy spirit, Amen - Students do the sign of the cross..
B. Greeting.
Good morning class! - Good morning, teacher!
You may now take your seats. - thank you teacher
C. Checking of Attendance*
Is there anyone absent today? - no, teacher..
Very good!
D. Review
Our last lesson is all about congruent line
segments.
Everybody read the definition. - students read the definition of congruent
line segment.
Congruent line segment - are lines that
has of equal length.
Very good!
I have here some examples: - students raising their hands.

1.

2.
9 cm

B. DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITY

a . Motivation
Show them the different shapes that are - students raising their hands.
symmetrical figures.Ask them the name
of the different shapes for them to
identify.
- students raising their hands
I’m going to put another set of shapes on
the board and I want you to look at them - yes teacher
carefully. What do you notice about these - none so far
shapes?

b. Presentation - there is a doted line or divided into two.

Our lesson for today is all about
symmetry.

c. Discussion
Symmetry - is when one half of a
figure looks like the mirror image of the
other half.
Line of symmetry - a line that cuts or fold
a shape exactly in a half.
- divides a figure into
two matching sides.
(give to the students a mirror and the half
shape of a heart)
I want you to hold your mirror along to
the doted line or line of symmetry and tell
me what you see in your mirror.
What do you see in your mirror? a heart..
-Very good!
Now, I want you to get your pen and
draw the other side of a heart that you see
in the mirror. -Yes Teacher!
-Excellent!
Now I want you to look at this shape. Do
all sides match? -no,
Can we called this fold line, a line of
symmetry? - no,
How about if I fold this rectangle this
way? Do all sides match? - yes teacher!
Can we called this fold line a line of
symmetry? - yes
Why do you say so? - because both sides match
I want you to look at this rectangle
carefully,do you think that there could be
another line of symmetry? -Yes teacher!
Very good!
A rectangle has two line of symmetry.
One is from the top to bottom, called
Vertical line of symmetry and the other
one is from left to right is called
Horizontal line of symmetry.
-Horizontal Symmetry.

(will give their examples)

(will define symmetry)

(will define line of symmetry)

-Yes teacher!

(give their opinion)

-Yes teacher!

-Share ideas and cooperate.

(each group will answer)

Activities:
Group 1. Tell if the pictures show line of symmetry. Write YES or NO

_______1. _______4.

_______2. _______5.

_______3.

Group 2. Draw the second half of each symmetrical figure.

1. 4.

2. 5.

3.

Group 3. Draw 5 figures that show line of symmetry.

Teacher’s Activity Learner’s Activity

-For each group, once you are done, do
the YES CLAP and post your answers on
the board, then go back to your respective
seats.

(check the answers)

-The group who will get the highest point

will receive a prize!

(after the activity)

-Since you experienced to work as a

group, now it’s time to work individually.
Get a pencil and you will have some
exercises.
(pupils will answer)
(will give the photocopy of exercises)
(explain the exercises for each category)
(after the exercise)
(pupils will pass their copy)
-Pass forward! Then sideward from left to
right.
