WHAT IS MEDIA ?
Media broadly describes all channels of communication, including
everything from printed paper to digital data. Media comprises news,
art, educational content, and any form of information that can reach
or influence people, including television, radio, books, magazines,
and the internet.
What Does Media Do for Us?
Media fulfills several basic roles in our society. One obvious role is
entertainment. Media can act as a springboard for our imaginations,
a source of fantasy, and an outlet for escapism.
The importance of media is growing every day due to the great
connectivity that exists around the globe. It is necessary to take into
account that the media not only communicate but also offer their
own perspective on every event that takes place. Our duty is to
analyze the information and draw our own conclusions.
Importance of media :
Let’s imagine a world without media. What would be the
condition of it?.Without media the world would be in danger,
separated, and confused. Due to media informing people about
what is happening around them, many families are able to live
safely. For instance, if there was no media, if a murder happens
in a particular area, the people living around the same place
would not know of the danger they are in.
If the world had no media, countries in the world would have
no connection with people in other countries. Nobody would
be cognizant of the current state of the world. For example,
when the tsunami incident happened in Japan, so many people
from all over the world helped through the mass media.
Without their help, maybe Hukushima and the people in the
city would never have had a chance of recovering from the
physical and emotional pain. Thus, media aids in
communicating news from one country to another; making
mankind more knowledgeable and caring.
DEMERITS OF MEDIA:
It leads to individualism. People spend too much time on the internet and watching
television. As a result, socialization with friends, family and neighbours is affected.
2. Some media contents are not suitable for children. Limiting children’s access to such
content can be difficult.
6. Media can be addictive, e.g. some television programs and internet. This can lead to
decrease in people’s productivity.
7. Health problems. Prolonged watching of television can lead to eyesight problems and radio
listening using earphones exposes one to possible hearing defects.
8. It glamorize drugs and alcohol. Some programs make the use of these things appear cool’.
9. It can lead to personal injury. Some people decide to follow the stunts that are showcased
in the media. This can lead to injuries.
CORRUPTION
WHAT IS CORRUPTION ?
In a system with corruption, there is no quality of service. To demand quality, one might need
to pay for it. This is seen in many areas like municipality, electricity, distribution of relief
funds, etc.
Lack of proper justice
Corruption in the judiciary system leads to improper justice. A crime may be proved as a
benefit of the doubt due to a lack of evidence or even the evidence erased. Due to corruption
in the police system, the investigation process goes on for decades.
Chances of unemployment :
The private education and training institutes are given permits to start providing education.
This permit is given based on the infrastructure and sufficient recruitment of eligible staff.
Here there are good chances of corruption. The institute or college managements try to bribe
the quality inspectors so as to get permits. Though there is no sufficient eligible staff, these
institutes get permission from the inspectors leading to unemployment.
Corruption in the government department lets the industry people opt to release untreated and
harmful waste into rivers and air. If there is no corruption, there can be fair probes.
Accidents
Sanction of driving license without a proper check of driving skills leads to accidents and
death. Due to corruption, there are countries where one can drive a license without any tests.
People vote for a ruler based on their faith in him/ her. But if leaders are found to be involved
in corruption, people lose faith in them and may not vote next time.
In 2021, the country was ranked 85th out of 180 in the Corruption Perceptions Index, with the
lowest-ranked countries perceived to have the most honest public sector. Corruption is caused
by a variety of factors, including officials stealing money from government welfare
programmes.
Teach ethics
First and foremost is that a person with moral ethics will not indulge in corruption.Despite the
rampant corruption around, you might have come across a few people who are honest and
non-corrupt.Even if their colleagues accept bribes, they restrain from it out of their personal
ethics. This is due to their belief in god, parents’ teachings, love for society, etc.
Give a better salary in govt jobs
Many employees in government positions receive a low wages like clerks, office staff, etc.
Hence they expect to make money through bribery. Thus, the public officials try to delay the
work for so long that the client is fed up and opts for bribery for progress in the work.So the
low salary is one of the reasons for corruption. To curb this, their salaries should be raised
periodically.
There are many major scams and corruption events involving media.Though the media is
well aware of the corruption happening, they stay silent due to their support for some political
parties. Otherwise, their owners get some monetary benefits from the rulers.
Many of them do not pay taxes and escape due to corruption in the income tax
department.Making payments online through bank accounts and provision of bills for every
financial transaction involving helps regulate it.
Sow we need toprevent corruption and make our country corruption free.
