It is important that operators familiarize themselves with the contents of this instruction manual, to ensure that use and
maintenance work are carried out in the correct and safe manner from the outset.
The maintenance intervals and individual technical data are average values based on experience, and may vary
depending on the cooler’s operational parameters.
The supplier accepts no responsibility for damage resulting from careless operation or inadequate maintenance. Keep
the cooler in good mechanical condition, and remember that preventive maintenance of the equipment reduces the
danger of damage and unnecessary operational interruptions.
Personal safety
Please note that the warranty will be void if the equipment is misused or not handled in accordance with prescribed
operating and service standards.
Please make yourself familiar with the content in this user manual before operating the cooler.
It is the responsibility of the user to ensure that appropriate controls and precautions are identified and applied in
relation to the work envisaged by this document in accordance with relevant statutory, legal and industry requirements
to protect the health and safety of the persons undertaking the work.
All operation and service of the cooler is to be carried out by personnel who are familiar with the contents of this
manual.
Unauthorized remodelling or modification of the cooler may result in a safety hazard, and is not permitted.
Warranty
Sperre standard warranty:
12 months from the date the equipment is put into service, however limited to 18 months from the time the equipment is
ready for dispatch from our works.
Warning! Do not open the element. Damages caused by open this element will not be covered by the warranty.
Disassembling
Before disassembling the coolers, make sure that all the valves are closed and both fluids are drained out of the cooler.
To disassembly the cooler, loosen the nuts on the tightening bolts enough to remove the complete bolt with its washers
and nuts. Move the back plate away from the cooling elements, and fasten it to the support bar to prevent it from
moving if the ship should heel over. Twist carefully one and one of the cooling elements out from the cooler. Start with
the one closest to the back plate. Be careful so the rest of the cooling elements do not fall out if the ship should heel
over.
Cleaning
Before the cleaning of the cooling elements starts, remember to remove the flow plates and clean these separately.
The cleaning is done by normal high pressure flusher directed 45 degrees to the Titanium. Do this in both directions
and on both sides of the cooling elements if necessary. If there are shells or scales, it might be needed to add some
kind of cleaning agents to break loose the shells or scales from the Titanium. This can easily be added directly into the
frames. After some waiting time the cleaning agents can be recirculated, and a new round with the high pressure
flusher will make the Titanium “as good as new”.
Make sure to use only chemicals compatible with material in Sperre Pleat cooler.
See the last page in this instruction manual for more details and pictures.
Reassembling
To reassembly the cooler make sure that the cooling elements
and the flow plates are installed correctly.
See the illustration for correct configuration.
Use the thin gaskets against the end plates and the thick gasket between the
elements (for 2 or more elements).
The pattern (circles () and squares ()) between the cooling elements
helps to see that the elements are installed correctly.
Sperre recommend to use lubricating paste, Molykote P 40, on the threaded rod before tightening the hex nut in a cross-pattern,
from 1 to 12 in chapter “Tightening torque”, until the cooling elements are in good contact with each other. Repeat this three times.
Preservation/ Storage
We have no special instructions for preserving the PLEAT coolers. As long as storage is in normal indoor environments the new
coolers can be stored for a long time without special precautions.
Should the cooler system be stopped for a long time after operation, the cooler should be drained in normal way.

• The triangle symbol () on the first element shall be closest to the seawater inlet port (Fig. 1)
• Between the elements there shall be a circle () or a square () (Fig. 2)
• The thin gaskets shall only be used against the end plates (Fig. 3)
• The thick gaskets shall only be used between the elements (Fig. 3)

This chapter advises you on general precautions for proper handling of the Pleat cooler and the danger the user may encounter. If
the Pleat cooler is employed improperly or not according to the intended purpose, danger to people or property can occur.
• Always adhere to the general, national and operational safety regulations before performing work on the Pleat
cooler.
• Before beginning work on the Pleat cooler, operators must familiarize themselves with the possible dangers of the
cooler.
Operation of the Pleat cooler should be stopped immediately if the permissible operating conditions including media, temperatures
or internal pressure are exceeded.
Precautions:
Before opening the Pleat cooler, please ensure that the cooler is unpressurized and empty. When opening the cooler always check
that the elements are properly secured with the Sperre lock devise, delivered with the cooler.
The type designation (1) and serial no. (2) are shown on the nameplate which is fitted on each Pleat Cooler system.
SPERRE disclaims all liability for damage due to the use of non-genuine replacement parts.
