INTRODUCTION OF SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND SOCIETY

Prelim. Activity Number 1.
1. Compare and contrast modern science and philosophy of science.

- Modern science is focused on empirical investigation and the development of theories based on
empirical evidence, while the philosophy of science engages in a more abstract, conceptual analysis.
Science relies on the scientific method and aims for empirical verification, whereas philosophy of science
may explore questions that go beyond what can be directly tested or observed.

2. What is scientific method? Enumerate the steps in the scientific method.

- The scientific method is iterative, which allows it to be repeated or modified in response to fresh data,
discoveries, or objections to accepted beliefs. Furthermore, even though these stages offer a broad
framework, the precise procedures can change throughout various scientific fields.

3. What are the limitation of science?

- While science has been incredibly successful in advancing our understanding of the natural world, it
also has limitations and constraints. Subjectivity and Bias:
Scientific investigations can be influenced by the personal biases, values, or cultural backgrounds of
researchers. The interpretation of results may be subject to subjective perspectives, affecting the
objectivity of the scientific process.
A sophisticated appreciation of science and its role in our understanding of the world requires an
understanding of these limits. Although science offers an effective approach to inquiry, it is not a cure-all,
and its conclusions are always tentative and open to change as knowledge increases.

4. What do you think is the role of science and technology in our society today?
- The role of science and technology in society today is multifaceted and pervasive, influencing various
aspects of our daily lives, economy, health, education, and global connectivity.
Science and technology play a dynamic and ever-changing role in society. In addition to offering chances
for development and advancement, technology also poses difficulties that need for thoughtful analysis and
appropriate handling to protect people's welfare as well as the sustainability of our planet.
