The Legend of Toba Lake

Narrator : In ancient times, there was a man named Toba. One day, he wanted to go fishing.
However, what he caught from his fishing rod turned out to be a goldfish which
later turned into a beautiful princess.

Toba : What is this? (confusion) [wat is this? (kebingungan)]


The Princess : Thank you for setting me free [thank yu for seding me free]
Toba : It’s doesn’t a matter [its dazen e mader]

Narrator : The princess was willing to become Toba's wife. However, there is a condition
that Toba cannot tell his origins. They finally married and had a child named
Samosir. Samosir grew up to be an active boy but unfortunately a little naughty.
Narrator : One day, Samosir was asked to bring food to his father. On the way, Samosir
even ate it until he had little food left. Arriving at his father, Toba was surprised
that the provisions he had brought were few. Feel disappointed, Toba even scolded
Samosir.

Samosir : Dad, here are the provisions. [ded, here are the provisions]
Toba : (opens his lunch and is surprised that there is little left) Hey Toba, why is there so
little left in my provisions?, you ate that provisions? [(membuka bekal dan kaget
bekalnya sisa sedikit) hey toba, why is ther so litel left in my provisions, you ate that
provisions?]
Samosir : (with a little fear) yes dad, I have eaten your provisions [(dengan sedikit takut) yes
ded, I have eaten your provisions]
Toba : Why did you eat my provisions? You already knew I was hungry, so you ate my
provisions. You little fish can't benefit. (full of anger) [why did yu eat my provisions?
Yu alreadi knew I was hungry, so you ate my provisions. You little fish cant
benefit(dengan marah)]

Narrator : He broke his promise to the point of calling Samosir a young fish who didn't
know how to benefit. Samosir was suddenly shocked and sad. He immediately
went home and complained to his mother. The broken promise finally bore bitter
fruit. The wife and Samosir suddenly disappeared.

The princess : Samosir, why are you crying? [samosir, why are yu crying?]
Samosir : mom, dad just said I'm a fish (sadly) [ mom, ded just seid im a fish(dengan sedih)]
The Princess : Why toba? (with disappointment and sadness because they have violated their
agreement) [ why toba?]
-----A few moments later-----

Toba : (after returning home) hello Samosir?, I'm sorry Samosir for scolding you [(setelah
kembali ke rumah) helo samosir? Im sori samosir for scolding you]
Toba : (after searching several rooms in Toba and not finding anyone) hello, Samosir
(anxious and leaves the house) [(setelah menelusuri semua ruangan toba tidak menemukan
siapa siapa) helo, samosir (dengan cemas dan keluar rumah)]

Narrator : After leaving the house and the disappearance of Samosir and his wife, Toba was
shocked that there was a terrible burst of water near where he lived.
Narrator : As a result, the burst became a lake which was later called Lake Toba.
Meanwhile, the island in the middle is named Samosir.
