SCIENCE
Unit 1: Particulate Nature of Matter & Effects of Heat and its Transmission
State that matter is made up of small particles, which are in constant and random motion.
Understand the simple model of solid, liquid, and gases in terms of the arrangements and
movement of particles.
Compare the properties of solids, liquids, and gases (volume, shape, density and
compressibility) in terms of how particles are arranged.
Use models to explain melting and boiling in terms of the change in the state of matter.
Understand that matter generally expands when heated and contracts when cooled.
Haque Academy Midterm Exam Syllabus 2023 Grade 7
List and explain some of the everyday applications and consequences of expansion and
contraction.
Explain that heat can be transferred through conduction, convection, and radiation.
Understand how elements are generally classified into metals and non-metals in the
Periodic Table.
Understand that mixtures are made up of two or more elements and/or compounds that
are not chemically combined
Understand the history and importance of atoms and how the understanding of the atom
has evolved.
State the definition, characteristics, and relative size of an atom.
Use simple models and symbols to represent atoms.
Identify protons, neutrons and electrons as subatomic parts of an atom and state its relative
charge.
Define proton number (atomic number) as the number of protons in the nucleus of an
atom.
Define nucleon number (mass number) as the total number of protons and neutrons in the
nucleus of an atom.
Define isotopes as atoms of the same element which have the same proton number but a
different nucleon number.
Use proton number and the simple structure of atoms to explain the basis of the Periodic
Table with special reference to the elements of proton number 1 to 20.
For first twenty elements, draw models to illustrate how electrons are correctly arranged in
shells orbiting the nucleus.
Define molecule and how it is different from an atom.
State the difference between molecule of an element or molecule of a compound.
Create models to show molecules of elements or compounds (molecular diagram and ball
and stick model).

Modes of story-telling (Internal Monologues, Dialogues, Narration, Description) must be
incorporated within the narrative.
Characterization - Whether the prime character of the story is a Protagonist or an
Antagonist. Evolve them through actions and behavior as the story unfolds.
Figurative language such as similes, metaphors, personification and imagery must be
incorporated wherever it supports the flow of the story
B. POETRY WRITING - Free Verse Poetry:
(Students will NOT need to follow the strict poetic norms and rules, but they must incorporate
all the poetic tool and figurative language taught in class as they like)
Infer the character’s motives, personality, and intentions with reference to the context
given
Identify the author’s purpose, main idea, theme
Identify the narrative tense of the story
Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in the text, including literal,
figurative, and connotative meanings.
Demonstrate understanding of imagery and figurative language (simile, metaphor,
personification, hyperbole, irony).
Understand and identify sound devices (alliteration, assonance, consonance,
onomatopoeia) and rhyme scheme.
Identify the Voice and Tone in a poem.
Answers should be written in complete sentences and revised for spelling or sentence structure
errors.
