 Know the following general rules to simplify the four operations with integers

Rules for Adding and Subtracting Integers

i. +(-n) = -n
ii. (-n) = +n
iii. -a-b = -(a+b)

iv. a-b = -(b-a)


v. -b+a = a+(-b)

Rules for multiplying integers

i. -a × b = -(a×b)
ii. -a × (-b) = ab
iii. a × (-b) = -(a×b)
iv. Multiplying even number of negative factors - the product is always positive
v. Multiplying odd number of negative factors - the product is always negative

Rules for division of integers

i. (–a) ÷ b = -(a÷b)
ii. (–a) ÷ (-b) = a ÷b
iii. a ÷ (- b) = -(a÷b)

nucleus of an atom.
 Define isotopes as atoms of the same element which have the same proton number but a
different nucleon number.
 Use proton number and the simple structure of atoms to explain the basis of the Periodic
Table with special reference to the elements of proton number 1 to 20.
 For first twenty elements, draw models to illustrate how electrons are correctly arranged in
shells orbiting the nucleus.

ENGLISH

ENGLISH COMPOSITION PAPER 1

A. FICTIONAL NARRATIVE

Students will be expected to plan and write a Short Story between 350-450 words from the
choice of prompts given.

 Planning should be done separately covering all the relevant points of the story. Focus on
the Plot, Settings, and Characters when planning your story. Elements of story arc must be
incorporated in the plan and evolved within the narrative.
 Decide the narrative tense of your story (first person, third person- omniscient and third
person -limited)
 Create interesting conflict with eventful rising actions
 Climax should be thought provoking.
 Modes of story-telling (Internal Monologues, Dialogues, Narration, Description) must be
incorporated within the narrative.
 Characterization - Whether the prime character of the story is a Protagonist or an
Antagonist. Evolve them through actions and behavior as the story unfolds.
 Figurative language such as similes, metaphors, personification and imagery must be
incorporated wherever it supports the flow of the story
B. POETRY WRITING - Free Verse Poetry:

(Students will NOT need to follow the strict poetic norms and rules, but they must incorporate
all the poetic tool and figurative language taught in class as they like)

 Plan their poem as per the poetry map provided


 Create first rough draft including all the elements mentioned below and then write the
final one.
 Identify and create the EXTENDED METAPHOR for the topic given.
 Brainstorm ideas for comparison.
 Figurative language such as Similes, Personification, and Imagery must be carefully penned
in a poetic manner to allow the reader to feel and visualize the idea.

ENGLISH COMPREHENSION PAPER 2

COMPREHENSION PAPER: The comprehension paper will comprise a fictional narrative


and poetry comprehension. Students should be able to apply their learning of the fictional
narrative unit and Poetry unit to extract correct information and formulate answers. Students
will be expected to:

 Demonstrate understanding and analysis of unseen passages from fiction genres.


 Identify elements of fictional narrative
 Analyze character traits, behaviors, and actions

 Infer the character’s motives, personality, and intentions with reference to the context
given
 Identify the author’s purpose, main idea, theme
 Identify the narrative tense of the story
 Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in the text, including literal,
figurative, and connotative meanings.
 Demonstrate understanding of imagery and figurative language (simile, metaphor,
personification, hyperbole, irony).
 Understand and identify sound devices (alliteration, assonance, consonance,
onomatopoeia) and rhyme scheme.
 Identify the Voice and Tone in a poem.

Answers should be written in complete sentences and revised for spelling or sentence structure
errors.
