Site Visit Report (BBJ Ruwa)

Summary
 Boiler details
o Cochrane mk3
o 150 Lbs/Sq.in
o Hydraulic test pressure 275 Lbs/Sq.in
 Valves and fittings (soot blowers included) require servicing and preparation for Hydraulic
pressure test
 Worn out gauge cock spindles will require replacements
 Low water cutoff and mobrey system malfunctioning. Correct service, repair and/or adjustment of
settings can only be determined during and after systems testing during boiler overhaul
 Stoker mate in good condition but several links will need replacements particularly drive LHS and
RHS links which are burnt
 Because of the identified burnt links, stoker requires further inspection on its accessories (rear
roller, sprockets, bushes, frame) conditions
 Recommendations to minimize the number of burnt links will be made as well as balancing the
draught
 Boiler pressure gauge needs to be calibrated
 Subject to further inspection:
o Blow down sump and line for blockages
o Feed water pumps
o ID and FD fans
o Coal Screw (flyghts condition and drive mechanisms)
o Guillotine door
o Ignition arch
 Repairs and recommendations will be made for above mentioned
 Works will require GEC to prepare the boiler for NSSA Internal and External Inspection and
commissioning as well as supplying all the necessary spares (gaskets, stoker links, gaskets,
fusible plug, refractory material) required to complete works
