Almost is Never Enough

Students in the Philippines have gone through various obstacles since the pandemic had hit and
has caused learning gaps to quite literally distance people and common sense. After months and months
of the Department of Education (DepEd) trying to bandage them back together, these programs planned
for 2024 seems to shine a bigger future for the country.

It has been reported to Filipinos that recently, the country has not been performing as well as it
should. This is being proven through the fact that the Philippines has ranked really low in international
examinations mostly in Literacy, Science, and Math. Not only in these examinations, but back in early
2023 many students were struggling, or do not care about their grades at all.

Being labelled with the title of a country with the most literacy loss is something to not be proud
of, and is definitely not something to look forward to. Instead of taking these ‘failures’ negatively, DepEd
had worked as a guiding light to these students to take it as a lesson and to come back even stronger.
Now, the programs that are being implemented are not only helping with their studies but as a person
overall.

School is not supposed to be an establishment which sucks out the fun in being with your
schoolmates, this is the very thing that DepEd is avoiding since having fun is one of the main motivations
in even wanting to attend school in the first place. The reason these programs exist are to encourage the
youth to take their studies seriously but at the same time is enjoying to do so. As the ones being helped
with, these students should be the ones who are giving their whole support to the efforts given to them
to improve.

DepEd has something to prove, and it is to say that the country’s future will be brighter than it is.
The programs that are given are already enough, yet the care that the students have for it are not.
Despite almost being there, if Filipinos want to enhance and progress, they have to do something, not
just leave it to the government.
