IV. OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The primary objective of the study is to determine the factors affecting health care

delivery system before and during COVID-19 pandemic in San Jorge, Samar

Specific Objective:

1. To describe the socio-demographic profile of Municipality of San Jorge

2. To enumerate the current health services during this pandemic being offered by the Rural

Health Unit.

3. To identify the enabling and hindering factors affecting the health delivery system before

and during the Covid-19 pandemic.

4. To analyze how these factors affect the health delivery system before and during the

Covid-19 pandemic.
I. RESEARCH DESIGN

The researcher will use quantitative descriptive-correlational design of research. This

design focuses the study in the present situation and aims to find new truth and provide facts on

scientific knowledge of objects and individuals (Calmorin and Piedad, 2008).

Quantitative research is defined as a "formal, objective, systematic process in which

numerical data are used to obtain information about the world" (Burns & Grove 2005:23). A

quantitative study utilizes a representative sample obtained by applying a probability sampling

method. This enhances the generalizability of the study findings to the target population.

Reliable and valid data collection instruments are necessary to ensure the credibility of the study

findings.

The descriptive design is a problem-solving approach that searches for answers based on

real facts related to existing conditions. This is most appropriate in determining the socio-

demographic status and compliance of diabetes patients to drug treatment and lifestyle

modification. A descriptive correlational survey ascertains relationship between to variables.

This relationship may be perfect, very high, high, moderate, slight or negligible (Calmorin and

Piedad, 2008).

Correlational designs involve an investigation of the degree of relationships between two

or more identified variables (Burns & Grove, 2005). Correlation occurs when two variables

change simultaneously in a particular direction and is measured with a coefficient r. If a decrease

in one variable produces an increase in the other variable, the correlation is regarded as negative.

If an increase in one variable produces a corresponding increase in another variable, the

correlation is regarded as positive. If one variable changes without any corresponding change in

the other variable, it is regarded as no relationship. In this current study the researcher
investigated the relationships between compliance and the other variables of the conceptual

framework.
