It is more subjective than objective since the thoughts, attitudes or characteristics and perceptions
of an individual are being focused on it. Besides, self-concept is a complex mixture of individual’s
consciousness and unconsciousness emotional attributes. Knowing yourself is equivalent of knowing
your satisfaction. An individual knowing how to recognize his/her strengths and deal his/her
weaknesses is near of being satisfied in life that he/she could experience happiness in life.

16. Differentiate self- concept and self-esteem. (5pts)

Self-concept means the perception of an individual on his/her overall attributes possessed,


may it be in a positive or negative way. By knowing yourself can lead to the true knowledge

according to great philosopher, Aristotle. But achieving self-concept needs and takes time. By
recognizing your strengths and dealing your weaknesses are only steps to be done in order to have
self-improvement. Self-esteem is defined as the perception of an individual of his/her worth or
value. It is influenced by biological and environmental factors including social interaction. Besides, an
individual having high self-esteem is more likely seen as happy and experiences less negativities and
adversities. While the one having low self-esteem is seemed to be fragile emotionally and sees
himself/herself unworthy.
