ENGINEERING GRAPHICS

DMCD 1543 SEMESTER 2 SESSION 2022/2023

PROJECT GUIDELINES

1.0 INTRODUCTION
It is very important that an aspiring engineer to be able to draw & interpret an engineering
drawing. This is because engineering drawing is a technical communication tool to convey
information about projects or plans. As part of the subject requirements, the following
describes the details of the mini project. The mini project represents 30% of total
coursework marks.

2.0 OBJECTIVES

i. Evaluate skills and understanding level of students towards reverse engineering drawing.
ii. Exposure the students experience in preparing and interpreting standard engineering
drawings.
iii. Enhance student skills in using AutoCAD software.
iv. Develop teamwork among group members

3.0 EXPECTED OUTCOMES

After completing this project, the students should be able to:

 Produce an engineering drawing according to specified standards.

 Generate multi view drawings, details drawing, working drawing and assembly
drawing from AutoCAD 3D modelling.
 Communicate technically via engineering drawings.
 Use AutoCAD 3D modelling technique and use it as a tool to translate and pictures
design ideas.

4.0 SCOPE OF PROJECT

4.1 This project has to be done in GROUP of at most FOUR (4) students. Each group are
required to do these tasks:
 Define project, team members (as given) and discuss with respective lecturer for
approval.
 Discuss research and developments of the devices including their functions.
 Capture the images of the original products and parts and create primary list.
 Disassemble the product and measure using appropriate measuring equipment.
 Create isometric & orthographic view drawing of product and parts by using 3D
modelling
 Create a working drawing (assembly & exploded view) drawings of product and
parts
 Write & submit a complete report of the project.

5.0 PROJECT THEME

5.1 Several products below can be selected as object to drawn, but not limited to:

5.2 Each group can draw other products or devices as long as the device consist of
minimum of 8 (eight) main components. However, any amount and size of bolts,
nuts, screw, pin, washers, etc. will be counted as 1 (one) component only. It is
advised to propose product that have more complex parts.

6.0 PROJECT SUBMISSION

Each group must submit the following items in SOFTCOPY format:

1. Project Proposal in pdf file (please refer to Section 7.0 for proposal contents &
formatting).
2. Project Report in pdf file (please refer to Section 8.0 for report contents &
formatting)
3. All drawing files .dwg file (AutoCAD files)

Submission due date:

Project Proposal: in 1 week (after project Briefing session) – thru Ulearn.

Project report : in WEEK 15th of study – thru Ulearn.

7.0 PROJECT PROPOSAL CONTENT & FORMATTING

Each group must submit their project theme in order to get approval from respective
lecturer before proceed with their project. The content of proposal as follows:
Description include team member and abstract in A4 size.

 Short introduction of the product

 Product and components sketches/schematic view or photograph (please
numbering every parts & state the total number of part)
 Team member job scope
 Gantt/milestone chart.
 Please use proposal cover format as shown in appendix 1.

8.0 PROJECT REPORT CONTENT & FORMAT

The FINAL report should consist of:

No Items Remarks
1 Abstract A brief summary made in a single paragraph which
explain objective of the project, introduction to the
devices, how the devices redrawn, and the
conclusion.
2 Chapter 1: Introduction and  Objective of the project
Background theory  Team member job scope
 Gant chart
 Brief explanation on the device drawn such as
overview of the device, function of device,
historical development on the devices etc.
3 Chapter 2: Procedures  Explanation on how to measure the product
before translating into 2D
 Procedure to assemble and disassemble the
device
 A detail STEP by STEP procedure how to draw a
selected1 main component. (state all the process
& AutoCAD command used to build that
components)

4 Chapter 3: Discussion  Discussion on all AutoCAD commands used to

redraw the devices
 Discussion on techniques and difficulties to
redraw the device
 Ideas to improve the device
 Etc.

5 Chapter 4: Technical Drawings  All technical drawing produced must consist:

- Orthographic views of parts including section
view, dimension, tolerances, GD&T (if any),
notes, etc.
- Isometric view of the devices
- Exploded view of the devices
- Assembly view of devices
6 Chapter 5: Conclusion Conclusion based on objectives of project
7 References any books, journals, or websites used for theory,
procedure, or discussion
