Prefixes un-, re-, pre-, dis-


The prefixes un-, re-, pre-, and dis- are added to
the beginning of base words to make new words.

MY TURN Read each sentence. Find the


word in bold type and circle the prefix. Under each
sentence, circle the letter next to the word’s meaning.

1. The river is muddy and looks unclean.

Home Activity Your child has been learning to spell words with the prefixes un-, re-, pre-, and dis-. Make
a list of base words and a list of these prefixes. Say a base word and a prefix, and have your child point to
each one. Say them together as a whole word.
